"It went very well! Lewis Services is prompt and professional. They take pride in their work and do a wonderful job! We have used other lawn companies before to mow for us and they would come when they felt like it, whether the grass needed to be mowed or not. They would not do a thorough job mowing and weed eating. We are very pleased! Thank you for your dedication and hard work! Your caring attitude is appreciated!"

"Everything about this job was top notch. This was a 200 sq. yd. project and the guys did an incredible job. The end result was far superior to the original drive in appearance and smoothness. I will recommend Morrison to anybody for any paving job."

"Alan's crew laid a sidewalk for me in May 2018. I posted a very good review then, as I was very pleased with the work. However, there are some problems with the sidewalk now. After only a year, one of the control joints has cracked all the way accross and to the ground. In talking with Alan, he tells me this is normal. I do not think he understands what I was describing, as I have since learned it is not normal, and even the 20 year old sidewalks in my neighborhood have control joints that are not cracked. My issue is that he does not return my calls. It took three days to get an answer in person, after leaving several messages. He said it would come by and look at the sidewalk - that was a week ago. I have since left three more messages and he has not returned my call or text message. I do know he lost the employee who did such a good job a year ago. I recommended Alan to a friend who was not satisfied with the work, which was clearly not up to the standards of mine. This was after he lost the worker who did such a good job for me. I notice there has not been a review posted since then. I would not recommend Alan based on his unprofessionalism to even respond to an inquiry about a problem."

"Styer was responsive and helpful. They found what we wanted in December and made good suggestions concerning our requests. The install team did an excellent job. I'd use them again. Price might seem a little high but everything is still alive and doing well and of course it's guaranteed. <br />"

"Corey met me the same day to provide an estimate, and while I initially thought his estimate was high, after receiving other quotes I realized that it was reasonable for the work being done. He texted me to keep me informed along the way which I appreciated. What I like about Corey is that he’s an honest, straightforward guy. Tree work is notoriously expensive as home/landscape expenses go, and he gets it - he won’t try to sell you something you don’t need or pressure you into having more work done than is necessary. It’s hard to find service professionals like that and I would highly recommend him to anyone."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Mechanicsville, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
