"THOM HARTMAN of Hartman Brick & Stone is the BEST!! He provided a great deal of information on: Cost, products (including area providers), time, best arrangements, what needed to be done before, during and after work was completed and lots and lots of patience for design and installation! We've had a few previous bad experiences with contractors, but having THOM HARTMAN do our patio project has been a wonderful experience! I will most definitely ask THOM to help with all our future improvements!!!!!"

"Tara came up with a great design that met our needs (low maintenance) and our color preferences, her knowledge of plants, soil, direction of beds and what would be best for us was wonderful. We obtained 3 estimates from different providers and Tara's was the only one that broke everything down and had a drawn plan telling us what would be where. She and Mark installed our beds in an afternoon and we couldn't be happier! Will recommend whenever we can!"

"Tom and his All Type Landscape Co team did an outstanding job of installing a channel drain in our driveway plus an outdoor pump to solve the problem of water flooding into our garage. His team also fixed a grading issue in our backyard to resolve water leakage into the laundry room. Of the several landscaping companies that proposed solutions, All Type Landscaping Co did the best job of walking us through the details, pricing, and process. Tom was also readily available for any questions and concerns. Overall it was great working with All Type Landscaping Co, and I will continue to work with them in the future."

"JP and his crew did an excellent job in a timely manner with no high pressure sales. He just gave me all the options and left the decision to us. I now a clean, encapsulated crawl space with a sump pump installed. Warm and Dry came highly recommended by other professionals in the industry."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Milton-center, OH

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
