Portland Kitchen Quotes is a kitchen design studio serving Portland and Southern Maine. Tell us about your kitchen: the layout, the measurements, the style you want. We design it in our own kitchen design software, with 3D renderings and wall-by-wall layouts, then hand you a real cabinet package to build from. That means a complete cabinet schedule, sized and specified for your room, not a rough guess.\n\nWe work with established cabinet lines, including shaker, painted, and wood finishes, and every design comes with a budget range before final supplier pricing. Whether you're remodeling, replacing cabinets, or planning a kitchen in new construction, you start with a design you can actually see.\n\nStarting your design takes about ten minutes, and it's free with no obligation. "Greg promoted his service on Angie's list for $200 for 6 hours and I bought it.  He  showed up more or less on time (15 min late but no big deal), started assessing the work right away and pulling the wires.   One hour late another (very young) person showed up to join him, but it was clear he was very inexperienced and couldn't perform any work on his own.   By noon Greg said the "6 hour deal" is up because they have two peoples working, I absolutely refused to pay the apprentice the same rate because if anything he was slowing things down.  Greg grudgingly told me "don't worry about it".
By 1pm two ceiling fan was up (only one worked) but Greg went to his other job (several towns away) for two hours which made me very anxious and to the point of upset because I was gravely concerned that he won't have time to finish all the projects I laid out for him.  I tried to call him several times but couldn't reach him.  While waiting for him, I chatted with the apprentice briefly and found out he just started from high school started apprenticeship several days ago.
When Greg came back he finished wiring ceiling fan, the motion sensor lights and at my insistence, installed two lights in the attic, but it was too late to do anything else.   I paid him for additional time beyond the 6 hours but voiced my displeasure about his two-hour absence and the fact that I had to take a day off work for him.   He simply said "that's the way it is".  Greg left all the waste (cardboard boxes, Styrofoam, etc) in the house instead of hauling them away, or at least taking it to the trash dumpster.
Overall I am satisfied with the quality of the work he did, but disappointed at his lack of professionalism.

"Everything went wonderfully with this company.  They were very professional, listened to exactly what my problem was, and explained to me how they were going to diagnose the problem and/or solve it before doing any actual work.  Once they started, the team (three people came) worked together like a well-oiled machine.  One was in the room with diagnostics, one was at the fuse box looking for possible problems there, and the third went into the crawlspace beneath our house to look at the physical wiring.  Once the problem was found (there was a faulty wire beneath the house that had come loose from the junction box), it was fixed and tested within minutes and another full diagnostic was done to make sure there were no other possible issues.  They cleaned up after themselves very neatly.  They also replaced the light switch with a dimmer switch at no extra cost!  Well within my budget, and came in even lower than their original (FREE) estimate!  I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Bergen County area.

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in Monmouth, ME

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
