"Very satisfied with the end result of our project. The workers were very polite and respectful of my home. We had a 500 Square Foot Living Room Added, bathroom remodeled, new kitchen, new flooring and tons outside including windows, door, siding and roof. It was a lot, thankfully Jamie the owner was there for us the entire way. More than happy to share this review for the next person who uses this companies service."

"Clark builders did a good job! Of course most of it was done during the pandemic when supplies were low or out of stock. We’ve been happy with the work they’ve done and would recommend them to anyone looking to build new home!"

"So glad that we had Steve and his crew help to make our basement dry! We started getting water in the basement last year and hoped the new gutters would correct the problem but it did not, so we called Steve and Now Dray Basements. After the basement was waterproofed, we have had several days of rain and I have not had to clean up puddles of water which is great! I also appreciated, that the crew worked really hard to clean up after they were done and not leave me a mess - thanks!!"

"After a bit of confusion (due to a previous quote from another technician) regarding our deep crawl space, we and Ayers finally made a joint decision on the best system to use. Gage Pederson, the Foreman, did an outstanding job of explaining what they were going to do, kept us totally informed each step of the way, and repeated everything, along with the warranty at the end of the job. We felt free to ask any questions and Gage replied with confidence and quickly. I can’t say enough about this young man’s professionalism. Ayers needs to keep him long term, and putting him in sales earlier than later. He really knows his stuff. He gave us complete confidence that the trenching and encapsulated system will work! Cody Redman and Andy Best were also on the job and did an outstanding job. All three of these guys worked their tails off, not stopping for long. When they left each day, Gage was sure to say what time they would return the next day. They called each day to say they were on their way, and showed up sooner than their expected arrival. It was a real pleasure getting to know each one of them, and they were excellent representatives for the Ayers company. Congrats to a job well done!"

"Putting my gazeebo together was not an easy task. Colleen was up for the challenge. Because of his building experience Colleen was able "figure out" the difficult parts. His price for the job was very reasonable. I highly recommend him. ?"

"Matt was great. Listened to everything and made quick changes when I was indecisive. His team of guys were all also great and professional. Their workmanship and the quality of installation and materials they used was also high end. He did not skimp on anything to save a buck. He did a Torah kitchen gut and remodel while home floors plus some in a 4 week. Way faster than ever expected. So easy to work with and I expect to be hiring him for the exterior work and bathrooms eventually! Awesome job!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Montrose, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
