"We hired them to replace the floor in our living, kitchen, dining room, and laundry room. They worked with us to decide what kind/color flooring we wanted, did it in the time frame indicated, cleaned while they worked, were fun to be around, and came in UNDER estimate. I think the most important part is he returns phone calls/texts! Some things came up so it messed up the timeline we had (no big deal) and he let us know ahead of time. If you work (or try to) with any sort of contractor, hearing from them is the biggest challenge. The pics attached are what they faced when they pulled the carpet and the other pic is mid-dining room reno. Highly recommend - as much as I hate to, they may not be available for our next project if people hear how great they are!"

"I’ve used CK Construction for several projects around my home. Both internal and external. Ine major project was adding a roof to one of our porches that tied into the house. CK also did a large shower tiling project for us. All the jobs turned at great. The team was there early and stayed late and did what they said they would."

"Top notch professionals. Build it Dan has done an amazing job each time they have done work on our home. Their employees are always on time, and work hard to get the job done in a timely manner. I absolutely highly recommend Build it Dan for any general or construction needs. We have been lucky to have worked together on several projects and the offer only quality work. Basement - I had great experience with the basement walk in remodeling. From the beginning Build it Dan was transparent with cost and was updated on the schedule. The team is professionals, skilled and always left my house clean. Always available to answer questions and responsive to any additions. We are completely satisfied and highly recommend BID for as my projects you may have. Backyard - they did suck a great job and were quick and efficient. Looks amazing and everyone always compliments the work. The step up was an awesome touch. The entire family is excited with the backyard and can’t wait to continue making memories. Thank you"

"David did great custom work, and the price was right! I couldn't be more pleased with his work. We now have a gorgeous new kitchen and bathroom. I had acquired virtually new cherry cabinets from a friend. David made some minor modifications to the cabinets to make them fit perfectly in my space. They look amazing! He found boos block butcher block countertops for us at a very reasonable price. I have always wanted these, and am thrilled with how they came out. I was a little bit nervous about putting in an undermount sink with the wooden countertops, but it cam out seemlessly and I am glad I went that route. I had some nice old barnboard laying around which David used as trim in the kitchen as well as the bathroom. He constructed a custom doorframe for the bathroom out of the barnboard and installed an old wooden door. Again, amazing looking! David cleaned up every day and finished the job two days ahead of time. I am so glad that I found David for this project, as you don't always know what you're getting into with a contractor you haven't worked with before. I would reccomend him in a heartbeat. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Morrisville, VT

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
