"They fixed a potential hazardous issue with my wiring, added a new plug in my garage, and balanced my electrical load, which fixed a lot of problems with fuses blowing and power dips. Excellent work, highly recommended!"

"Gerald is my new handyman! He’s very professional. His service is fast and efficient. I booked him for the assembly of a queen size bed frame & headboard. I requested his services around 9am, he arrived to my residence at 10:30am, then finished at 11:30am! PHENOMENAL!! He ensured that it was to my liking and moved it around until it was in the perfect spot. He also made sure it wasn’t crooked and even informed me how to properly move it if I decide to move it again so that it wouldn’t break or become damaged. If you need a trustworthy, reliable, and talented handyman he is definitely the right guy!"

"I was given an estimate and hired the electrician to do the job. After the job was done, I was charged an extra $350. There was no discussion before the work was done. I m sorry it took longer than anticipated, but I think the upcharge was too much. He might say the materials cost money, etc. I have no problem paying for extra materials but was charged extra for labor. Again, it is not my fault that the job took longer than anticipated. I plan on having many more jobs in future as I am in the rental business. I will not use Granite City Electric."

"We had an informative conversation during the estimating process, about options and what I was trying to accomplish. I was having a new circuit installed for power to the crawlspace so I could plug in a dehumidifier down there. BNA made the process easy, understandable, and affordable. Their work was swift, neat, and looks great. Everything exactly as I wanted it."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Mount Airy, NC

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
