I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

"They have done a variety of work for us; roofing, remodeled doorways, remodeled gutter, and other things. They are our go-to remodeling company. Their price is higher than the normal but worth the price when it comes to the product of the service and the result. The owner, Steve Heidorn, believes in doing a good job and ensures that the job is done right and on time. He personally comes and checks everything so they can be trusted to do the job right. I'm always comfortable with their work."

"Went well overall. Was very dusty. The concrete work to cover the drainage system cracked in places fairly quickly after it was installed. Our basement has flooded due to sewer back up three times since system installed. Original installed 1/3 hp pump could not keep up with it. The way the basement floor is laid and the system is configured the water on the floor could not get into the system on its own. Thank you."

"I hired ace to install a new water heater and fix a few leaks in a vacant rental house. There was no issue with their work, however water didn't get shut off after the job was completed and as a result the basement flooded from a separate issue. I live in another state and gave them a call to speak with them about the problem. Even though Ace was not directly responsible for the issue, Dennis and the team at ACE came out and helped clean up the mess.  <br /> They went above and beyond with this job. I was very impressed with their responsiveness and willingness to help beyond the scope of their work. I would certainly recommend them and use them again. <br /> Job well done ACE! <br />"

"Unique Tile and Marble is the perfect choice for any tile project. Their work is top-notch, with meticulous attention to detail, both in the prep work and cleanup. Their team is knowledgeable, professional, courteous, committed to excellence and do not consider a job finished until the customer is 100% satisfied. Their work on my kitchen floor was amazing and the quote very reasonable. I highly recommend them!"

"They were a little expensive, but they did a very good job. They got them all messed up and somehow we got lost and it took 2 months to get them to come out after they first came out. They lost us somehow and I don't know what happened. I had to literally call them back and start over again. They were there exactly when they said they were coming the second time they came out. We called them and told them our roof was leaking. We got them from Angie's List, and then I had to call them back, and she said they can't find us anywhere. I would use them again. As a matter of fact, we would be calling them again soon."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Mount Vernon, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
