"Jerad was very professional when he came to quote re-doing my gravel driveway. He gave suggestions on how to make it drain better. After I hired him he set a schedule to do the job. He was very punctual and worked diligently until the work was completed. I would not hesitate to recommend Anderson Dirtworx, or to them again."

"Jerrod the owner of Archstone was emphatic to point out that he is one of the best if not the best and a very conscientious and honest man. He said the mortar on exterior house wall is very hard and can't be ground out. Per his expert advise the best things is pressure wash and scrape out loose and damaged mortar and use sponging technique to fill in cavities with type S mortar. I understood and agreed asking for care with pressure washer. Quote was $2922 before tax. He said the wall wouldn't look much better than it does now but he would get all the places having egregious deterioration and then seal. Two days work. Moving forward his team (him and a 18 year old nephew) came and went in less than 4 hours. Sealant remained to be done and I could see that cost was itemized at $400. I personally could do it in 1/2 hour so I asked him to scratch it from the price. He was very amenable to that. The issue arose when I was sealing I found and sent him photos of spots with severe erosion that were missed and should take about 1 hour to fix. Some on wall, one in bottom corner of house, one big seam in windowsill. I sent email and photos asking for him to return. He didn't reply. 1 week later I reached him by phone and he said he didn't get the email/or hadn't read it yet but he wasn't going to come back for 'pinholes' which I could do myself. First of all I could do everything myself but that's time that I paid him for. He is too busy to come. Photos are from the south wall as discussed."

"Beautiful. The crew was fantastic and Project Manager Bryce was a terrific asset. I planned to build a Costco outdoor pavilion after paver installation but wanted to pre-install concrete footings and trench in electrical cable for lights, receptacles and ceiling fan, prior to the pavers going down. Bryce and his team gave me ample time and some assistance to make my vision come true. Our sales associate Kirk made great suggestions regarding colors, borders and additional low voltage lights. We could not be happier. This has transformed our backyard and given us a long awaited retreat ... any time of day or evening. Thank you System Pavers."

"We hired Granite & Marble for our kitchen re-do after visiting and getting quotes from two vendors including them. Lowest cost was not our primary criterion, but we wanted good quality work and a responsive vendor. They seemed to have top notch stone cutting technologies and everyone we dealt with was responsive. Ed Watson (I believe an owner) provided an initial estimate right away based upon my measurements, even before we visited their showroom. Once we visited the showroom Glenn helped my wife and myself, answering questions about the various quartz options, looking up approximate costs for third party stone providers. We visited twice in Kent and settled on a quartz that was available from manufacturer LG Haus who had a warehouse in an office park just across the 4 lane road from Granite and Marble (btw, LG Haus makes these in the U.S. though they are a Korean company. LG Haus was very accommodating in letting us see the various quartz stones in their warehouse). Once we selected the quartz & settled on a sink (we selected a 16 gauge stainless double available from Granite & Marble), and bought our new stovetop (from Lowes) and new faucet (chrome finish stainless all-in-one from Kohler), Glenn at G&M provided our final quote. As soon as we had our original stovetop removed (vendor service provided by Lowes), Steve at G&M finalized the contract (50% prepayment) and scheduled the template measurement date and installation date. The template specialist Eugene came to our home on the appointed date where he precisely measured all dimensions and entered them into an electronic template tool. He helpfully answered our questions and also asked our preferences about several details concerning the counter installation. The installation was scheduled about a week after the template measurement, but it ended up being delayed a couple business days because the machinist who was working on the slabs the prior afternoon noticed a scratch on one of the slabs and halted work until it could be replaced by the slab vendor. Our only complaint is that we were not notified of this on the original install date and we had to call them to find out what was going on. Apparently an internal communication failure at G&M caused this, but none-the-less we were glad that they took the initiative to replace the defective slab. The rescheduling was not a great inconvenience for us (because we are usually at home) but might be for someone who has to take time off work on installation day. On the installation date, installers Javier & Javier (father/son) arrived and professionally executed the removal of the old counters and the installation of the new ones, taking appropriate care to ensure that no collateral damage to the existing cabinets occurred. Both of them helpfully answered our questions and also asked us if we had any preferences about relevant installation details. All in all we are very happy about the way the project turned out, and would strongly consider G&M for future work. Our only caution to a prospective client would be to telephone confirm appointments in the morning of the day-of scheduled visits for template and installation work."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Mount Vernon, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
