"We hired J&S Construction remodeling to repair a shed roof, steps to our wooden porch, and to install a railing on our front porch steps. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. He did a great job and quickly. We were working within a time frame and appreciate him accomplishing everything in under 3 days. His estimate for the repairs was affordable and on par with the other estimates we received. We will be hiring J&S again in the future. * I tried uploading photos but it says the file size is too large."

"Allen made my house look amazing. We had some rotting wood posts on the porch, and as he got into the work, it was worse than we thought. Since some of the damage was on the porch roof, he took photos of the damage and of the repairs step by step so we knew exactly what he was doing. He did some exterior painting and pressure washing as well. We have a LOT of concrete and it was a BIG undertaking! Since it had not been washed in over a decade, I wondered if it could even look any better. Allen got our driveway cleaner than I imagined, my porch and exterior painting look AMAZING , and he did everything in a timely manner. He was punctual and professional, and he worked long hours in the scorching heat to get the job done. I highly recommend him! "

"Josh, the service tech arrived in a professional van in uniform, assessed the job in very friendly manner and installed the retractable screen door perfectly. He also installed a keyless entry lock perfectly. He did both jobs in timely manner and cleaned the work area entirely. I would highly recommend Mr. Handyman for all projects. They satisfied our expectations and then some."

Customers say: Quality work

"I spoke with Mr. Tom about my fallen closet shelf. He promptly came out to my home yesterday and repaired the shelf and it took him less than one hour. He was very professional, courteous, on-time, and just an all around nice guy; he and his son both. My wife inquired about hanging a picture that I have no skills in hanging and he told her he would be back next week to hang it for us. Great guy, great work, and very personable."

"Having never bought windows before, we began our search online. Zen Windows had outstanding reviews so I wanted to explore that company along with a few others (think those you see ads for on TV, like American Home Design) because I wanted to see what we could get at a good price and good quality. Problem was we've never bought windows before - where to start? How do you know what's best? Brad answered my phone call immediately and gave me a great summary of what to know about a window purchase, along with sending me an email with links to videos and info to understand more about the windows. He was able to send a quote within 30 minutes and encouraged me to get a quote from a few other companies (imagine that! encouraging you to talk to other companies). As I called the other companies, they took a message or I went online to set up an appointment (soonest was a week or two - argh). We sat down with American Home Design and their sales agent for about an hour and a half - another argh. Too long, the guy was too loud (with my kiddo taking a nap in another room) and while we did get to see the windows, it was a waste of time with a high pressure sales pitch at the end that was "decide today or else the price goes up about $3,000." Really?? - nothing would change as he walked out the door in terms of cost. Why make me decide right away when I wasn't ready? After this sales visit, we canceled the one other one we set up with another company and called Brad at Zen Windows to get things started (by the way - no deposit or payment needed until work is complete). He came out to measure, ordered our windows, kept us up to date and was on time getting our windows installed about 3 weeks later after the windows were manufactured and shipped to him. His crew was great and cleaned up - outside and in. While the window order was 2 windows short, Brad was clear and honest about going back to find out why and he quickly ordered the other two windows, set up a time to come back (and was on time and smooth sailing again). He also took care of a tempered glass window that we weren't happy with getting that replaced at the same time (I misunderstood what tempered glass actually was - thought it was more like a mirrored window - so my mistake). I love the windows - the quality is great. Already a huge difference - draftiness is gone and the outside noise is also reduced. I will absolutely recommend Zen to others here in the Nashville area (and I've already told my brother who lives out of marketing in Ohio to check in Zen in his market to replace one of his windows). Go ahead and sit through one sales pitch with any other company and then talk to Brad at Zen Your decision will be very easy!"

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Murfreesboro, TN

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
