He pulled out the stove, inserted the monitor and --nothing -- the front piece didn't light up and I still couldn't turn on the oven. John, however, wasn't defeated - he pulled apart more of the back of the stove and discovered that, not only had a mouse gotten into the stove, (he showed me the droppings) but it had chewed through some of the wires. John persisted despite my assumption that I would have to replace the stove ... and somehow, he skillfully found the wire that was keeping the monitor from connecting. He asked if I would approve him fixing that wire and of course I said yes. Both John and I were delighted when the repaired wire connected to the monitor and --- I had a working stove again!
