"We were very happy with our selection of ADR PRO BUILDERS LANDSCAPING in Mt. Vernon, NY . They did a wonderful job removing the existing asphalt and repaving it. They gave a very fair price, were always on time, returned calls promptly and were very easy to deal with. They also did my neighbors driveway who were also very pleased with their work. Santiago was the go-to person we dealt with. He was great! I would highly recommend this company! "

"We hired Sealpro to seal our driveway and install a drain in front of our garage. We were very pleased with the work done. Lou was great to deal with. He was easy to communicate with and was very professional. He made sure that we, as his clients, were satisfied with the job done."

"Given the quarantine, I embarked on a mission to update the curb appeal of my house...as soon as the landscaping sector reopened I solicited estimates for the removal of my existing lawn and replacement with new sod as well as extending the drainage from a dead leader at the front of my house to the street. Sagona has done both cement (sidewalks, apron and a wall) and sod work for me in the past; so, of course, I included them. Most of the estimates came in around $2400-2500...he was a little higher than that but he ended up working with me on the pricing. One of the points that bothered me about the other estimates was that every one said that they would not be responsible for any damage done to the less than one year old sidewalks Sagona had installed for me. I knew, just based upon their past work and ethos, that regardless of who had installed them or how old they were, they would take care to not damage them. That might be a hint to some contractorss, btw, that you don't tell a homeowner there's a good chance you're going to damage something but "So what?" They showed up on time on the appointed day and went right to work...the old lawn was removed in good order...the trench was dug for the drain...the remaining soil was turned....mega amounts of top soil was wheel barrowed in, contoured and then made ready for the sod which was then laid perfectly...there at 8...gone by 5...beautiful new lawn installed with care... Again, they won't be the lowest estimate but I have yet to choose a lowest estimate and not gotten burned by it...as it is with anything...you get what you pay for and when it comes to Sagano...their work is worth every penny and more..."

"We purchased a house that was 20 years old. We needed our concrete walkway repaired, as it sank over a period of several years, leaving the distance between steps as a safety hazard. Brian and his crew assessed the situation and did an amazing job. Besides replacing the entire concrete walkway, they also installed a railing. They did another railing in the back of the house and installed a new mailbox as well. 2 days in and we've had many compliments on both the mailbox and walkway. Another neighbor has already asked if HMD is willing to do their mailbox. No job to small (or big, as I believe they're used to doing much larger jobs in the metro area). They also kept our property and surrounding area clean. They loaded equipment and materials in and out, and it was a "busy site" for a couple of days, but when they cleaned up, you would never know they were there, except for the quality craftsmanship they left behind. The front of our house looks better than ever."

"I thought the on the whole went excellent. The workers were extremely efficient and professional, and the quality of the work done was absolutely top notch. The work took 2 days for completion. 90% of the work was done on Day 1. Day 2 consisted of building a concrete porch/ramp for my side unit apt. As far as pricing goes, I would say their pricing was good. I had gotten a few other quotes, and Mezzacappa's pricing was slightly lower. Now I'm sure if I went bargain hunting I could have found someone cheaper. However I wasn't looking for cheap, I was looking for value. Quality work at a fair price done quickly. That's exactly what I feel I got. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or use them again in the future."

"The Hi Tech Construction & Restoration Corp. is truly a wonderful company ! I have had them before, and they're truly marvelous! Mr Karman, his brother, Mr. Usman and their team did such a fantastic job in repairing my roof, my deck, brick pointing, and waterproofing these areas. So far, at long last, I am leak free! They're absolutely brilliant ! I highly suggest anyone, who need such repairs, to contact them immediately. The prices for their services are very reasonable . Their work is simply amazing ! Thank you so much, Hi Tech Construction & Corp. !"

"Team showed up a day before install was set for to drop off machinery and materials. The whole install crew showed up promptly on install day. The team leader walked me through the process and made sure trees were going exactly where i wanted. Install ended up taking longer than they thought and had to come back for a second day. Great care was taken to install new Arborvitaes, and as much as possible to take care of the transplants. A season later 11 out of the 12 transplants survived. <br /> My only issue was that i was unable to go with someone to the nursery to pick out the trees. I was told they had already been picked out. Other than that i was completely happy with the services provided. <br />"

"Thank you to Mitch Kersch of Major Homes for this recommendation about 8 years ago. We have previously had our porch repaired, waterproofing and concrete work performed and now bricks repointed by Knockout Masonry. A company is as good as its owner and workers. Here, we are dealing with caring professionals who go beyond to foster customer satisfaction. All have an eye for detail, and all take pride in their work. When workers are treated well it reflects in what they do. Jimmy, the owner, obviously knows how to run a business and develop great relationships with his workers and clients. He set a time frame and worked within it to complete a clean, professional job in a timely fashion. Many thanks to Jimmy, Chris and Knockout Masonry."

"We are unbelievably grateful to have found Anthony (through a recommendation on Brownstoner). When we called him, we were at our wit's end because our house leaked a ton of water during certain rainstorms where the wind blew from the northeast. We had a parade of general contractors and roofers come through, none of whom offered a concrete solution. Most of them just suggested that we put on a new roof, but no one knew whether the leak was coming from the brick wall, the window, the door, the roof, or where the roof met the wall. No one would promise to stop the leak. Anthony guaranteed that he would stop the leak and, to the end, ran a number of water tests with a hose while he was on the job to make sure he found and fixed all of the leaks. (We had another contractor try to charge us $1000 JUST for the water test itself). He is truly a great find—a contractor who knows his business and really takes the time to make sure the job is done right and done well. We really appreciated this, particularly since we found a lot of contractors just wanted to finish the job and get on to the next one. And we found his prices to be reasonable. Sorry for the long and rambling review, but we were just so pleased. We are new homeowners and have had a lot of problems since moving in 6 months ago. We've had about a dozen contractors in our home, and we can say without a doubt that Anthony is the only one we've trusted 100%."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in New-York, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
