"Building a new out building for a wood shop.  The location needed some excavation back into a hill to come up with a level area large enough for the 16'x20' footprint and 6' perimeter area for the installers.  The work seem to grow as we moved back into the hill; we ended up using close to 80 railroad ties to shore up the back and sides for the site. <br /> We also decided to "bury" the power feed from an existing power pole so a change was made to the original contract.  While digging the trench, came across a significant piece of "Shelby County Gold (chert!)" which posed its own challenge.  Mother nature proved a bit fitful with Spring rain to really soak down the newly exposed dirt; delays were unavoidable but Heath stayed with it and we were able to get a level building site and a wire ready power conduit before the builders arrived to start construction. <br /> All of this being said, Heath did a great job on what started as a seemingly easy request but turned out to be a more complex project with multiple challenges.  We are very pleased with his work, his work ethic and attention to detail.  Any future grading or excavation work will definitely be pointed in Heath's direction. <br />"

"I put out a request on Angie list and the Company Soggy Bottom contacted me and I accepted their offer to clean out my septic tank. They arrived on the scheduled date; the tank was cleaned; the company was paid in cash. Now I have this issue of the raw sewage collecting on top of the tank again this have never been a issue pre-service with Soggy Bottom my deceased father had the tank cleaned when I moved in the house 26 plus year ago, and I've never had an issue until now. Maybe I chose the wrong Company to do business with."

"<p>Overall, this was a very good experience.</p> <p>We needed to have some plumbing work done in our master bathroom, so decided to have the countertop replaced at the same time.  This led to having them all done so they would be consistent throughout the house.</p> <p>We stopped at their location locally, and were met by Ashley.  She was very professional and helpful.  It was difficult to pick out a color from a small sample but she helped us make our choice.  They were cooperative in working with us to have the work done in two steps because we needed to have two countertop installed, but the third removed,  plumbing work done, then have them come back to install that countertop.  They charged us $150 for the second step, but we understood the costs involved to them so we paid it.</p> <p>They sent us a picture of the slab and it looked too pink to me.  So I went back to their location and got confirmation it was ok.  Ashley was patient and supportive.  </p> <p>Mike, the lead installer, and his helper were very efficient and timely.  If they were running late, Mike would call us.  On the second installation, he called twice to let us know what was happening.  This is so rare with installers!  He provided great service.</p> <p>There were only two items we wish were different: </p> <p>(1)  There was a 1/4 inch gap between the right side of one counter and the wall.  This was the only bathroom where the countertop had to fit between two walls.  The gap occurred because the wall was not square.   The gentleman who did the measurement must have known this when he was here, but we did not realize there was this issue until the countertop was in.   It was explained that it is in our contract that gaps are possible, but we did not figure the gap would be that large.  I think we should have been told that there was a potential issue and work with us on a potential solution.  If a solution was not possible, then at least we would know.  This is the only reason the Quality rated a B.  The material itself is great and the other two bathrooms are beautiful.</p> <p>(2)  We specifically asked for afternoon appointments, and it seemed that all we were offered were mornings.  </p> <p>Except for the one gap, the countertops look great!  We have a solution we are working on to make the gap less obvious.</p> <p><br /></p> <p><br /></p> <br />"

"I needed gravel spread and was very satisfied with the finished product. Ralph responded right away to my request, and had Darryl Murkerson get with me. He did an excellent job, was fast and a really nice guy. I’d recommend both of these guys for any work you need done. I’ll definitely be calling them again!"

"They did an excellent job. The extremely large tree was between my house and power lines so they couldn't use the bucket truck, but that didn't deter them. They got it down, anyway. My only dissatisfaction was my own fault . . . I had NO idea of how much mulch would be produced when the stump was ground. This is a great company!"

"I did get estimates before hiring them. One company wanted over $11,000.00, yes, I did say $11,000.00 to SCREEN it in. The cost with North Alabama Builders was around $3200.00 including labor. They arrived promptly, did their job (it took 2 days),cleaned up after themselves, and produced a lovely room. I would use them again!!! <br />"

"In Sept of 2014, after reading numerous reviews online (including Angies List) and seeing other people"s lawns after being treated by various lawn services, I contacted Classic Gardens & Landscape.  My lawn was in terrible condition.  After having re-sodded my yard about 10 years ago, it looked ok for a few years but then began deteriorating.  I had more weeds than grass, and what grass I had was thin and sparse.  I finally decided something had to be done.  The Classic staff came out to evaluate my yard.  They were prompt, very professional and polite, and very detailed and thorough in their analysis and proposal.  They said it wouldn't be a quick turn-around, (it could take 1-2 years) but with time, they could bring the yard back to life.  I was skeptical but signed the agreement and they began immediately (Sept 2014).  Nothing really looked different for several months.  Then around April 2015 the grass began to look a bit more lively.  But today, (August 2015) barely one year later, the grass is starting to look amazing!  It is thicker, lush green and is 1000 percent improved.  There are still areas (that were in the worst shape) that have a way to go yet, but I have no doubt those areas will come around too...with time.  I am very pleased with the results I'm seeing.  I look at it as an investment in my home, not just an expense.  I plan to let them continue treating my lawn moving forward.  ALSO...a few weeks ago I had a problem with my sprinkler system.  I called Classic and later that week I got a call back and we set an appointment.  They came, identified the problem, found a couple of other problems I didn't know was there, and fixed the system on the spot.  The technician was polite, professional, very easy to work with and knew his stuff.  I was very pleased with their service.  They weren't the cheapest in town, but I didn't want the cheapest...I wanted the best.  I think I got it.  Good job, guys!  Keep up the good work! <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in New-castle, AL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
