"A simple request turned into a mammoth project involving the installation of piers to shore up my foundation, but I'm glad for the work being done. Everyone involved did a good job, and Trevor Atwell was great as my contact."

"Exceptional service. On time, polite, respectful, and upfront in regards to pricing. Main line completely clogged with year’s of built up tree roots. When the job was completed, a camera was used to show the whole 100 plus feet of line was clean of roots and debris. Highly recommend ALLN1 Plumbing."

"They could have completed the job completely. They took pieces of it apart but they did not put those back together. I had the son of the maintenance guy put them back together. I'm just complaining about the completion of the whole job but the quality, workmanship, and everything were fine."

"I felt very confident in Mr. Hoover and his staff's work and understanding of the project. He talked me into a little more work because it was necessary. I am very glad I did the extra and probably should have done more. I wish I had known about him when I first had the deck done because he did such a good job using better materials, cedar, and explaining how much longer it would last. His assistant was very professional.

"He put in a light ballast that no one else could do. He replaced trim as well. They did great work and they were pleasant to work with. They were there for about two hours and did awesome work. I would use them again. They had all the equipment needed with them."

"We bought a century-old house (3 stories, 1800 sq ft) that had been neglected for a while prior to our purchase. Al from Sol's quoted us a good price and said it would probably take him 3-4 hours with help from an employee. After getting into the project, Al realized that the vents were much dirtier than he thought (some of the dirtiest he's ever seen). He ended up staying for 8 hours with a helper to not only finish the job, but do a thorough job without cutting any corners. They took apart the furnace to clean the coils, took of the heat registers to clean them, made everything look brand new. I was so impressed with their dedication I gave them a little extra money for all of the effort and called Al to come back and do some minor repairs around the house. It's really rare to find people who take such pride in their work. All they asked in return for their extra effort was that I give them some good recommendations, which I am happy to do. I highly recommend Sol's."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in New-douglas, IL

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
