"Jeff and his crew at Earthtones Harscapes did an outstanding job from start to finish installing a new patio and walk for our home. They were very professional, responsive, and we couldn’t be happier with the team, their talents, and especially the end results of their hard work that we’ll be enjoying for many years to come."

"They were excellent every step of the way. I ended up calling them because I had researched a number of local companies and not so local companies to do the work for a house that we purchased. Every other company that I talked to made promises, but couldn't deliver. I was assigned a project manager to work with at David H. Martin and he took care of everything and every step. He told me what they were going to do and they did what they said they were going to do. He stayed within budget and did excellent work."

"BJ came and gave us a quote and recommendations on March 24th and recommended that we do not seal the driveway until the weather was warmer.  Since this was the first time, BJ recommended a brush rather than spray application as it will last longer and make subsequest spray applications more reliable.  When the work started, the guys were very careful not to spread sealant on the grass, landscaping or sidewalk.  We were extremely pleased with the application and coverage.  Our neighbor came over while they were working and decided to use them as well.  He is also very satisfied.  BJ followed up with a visit after a few weeks.  We have recommended them to several other neighbors. <br />"

"Nate is a really great business person with your best interests in mind. He walked me through the whole process and came in about 50% of the quotes I had been getting for the same or similar work, we then added additional work (mulching) and he was full of suggestions. The work and professionalism is amazing, has a reasonable rate for labor, and he also doesn't charge you an arm and a leg on materials. <br /> All-in-all, Nate with S&L Landscape and Lawn Care is a really great guy/company to work with. <br />"

"Access did an excellent, professional job. We chose Access because, even though they cost a bit more than other estimates we obtained, they acted as something close to general contractors. They took care of obtaining and scheduling electricians and plumbers, for example. Their knowledge of the type of work that we needed and the nature of our problem was impressive, and the owner was willing to spend the time to carefully explain the problem and the proposed cure. We had a water remediation system installed with a pump and marine battery backup. The work crew was totally professional. They knew exactly what to do and explained what they were doing. The interruption of our household was kept to a minimum. The job was begun and completed on time. This was an impressive company who was worth every penny that we paid. We would definitely hire them again."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in New Oxford, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
