"The project went very well. <br /> I had contacted Brian Oltmanns (owner) to provide an estimate for another project for my Mom about a year ago. Brian was very prompt and provided a very detailed estimate.  Although my Mom at the time had to delay the project.  We both were very impressed with how detailed he was in explaining what would be needed as well as providing the details in the estimate. <br /> I knew he would be the contractor to do my project.  I called his office in February 2015 and talked with Stephanie about what I wanted done.  Stephanie set up an appointment to come to my home the next week following my call.  Stephanie is the Interior Designer and is very skilled and detailed in her profession.  <br /> We started with my Laundry room which needed a total makeover.  Based on what I told her I wanted she designed a functional laundry/mud room.  I told her I preferred her to send emails with the designs since I work it would be easier for me to approve what I wanted and not wait to conduct meetings in the evenings after work.  I met with Stephanie and the guy making the custom cabinets and lockers to ensure the design and measurements were accurate. <br /> Likewise, with the 1/2 Bath and Kitchen counter tops and back splash, Stephanie listened to what I wanted and provided ideas and suggestions of how to make both areas look the way I requested.  <br /> Stephanie provided a very detailed proposal which listed everything to be done, and cost for each item.  There were no hidden cost; even if there were a chance of additional cost due to not being able to determine until the work was started, it was listed as "To be determined".  I was consulted prior to any work being done if it were't listed on the proposal. <br /> . <br /> Once I approved the proposal, Stephanie began ordering the materials.  The work wouldn't start until all the materials were availalbe which eliminates having to stop a project due to mateirals not being availalbe when needed. <br /> Mike, the Project Manager and his workers started the actual work on my project in June.   They did a very good job and I was able to look on my detailed Project Scope provided to me and Mike to ensure everything I requested was being completed. <br /> They were very flexible when toward the end of the project I wanted to replace 2 doors.  It was no problem; Mike provided the measurements to Stephanie.  The doors were ordered and installed. <br /> They completed my project in July.  <br /> My Kitchen, Laundry/mud room and 1/2 Bath are so lovely!!    I'm very satisfied with the outcome of my project!! <br /> I plan to hire them to additional work."

"We met with Robin while interviewing builders and felt really at ease with his demeanor and knowledge. He took the time to meet with us prior to the purchase of our lot to confirm our vision was possible. We came to him with a general design and he was able to have it drawn up into a workable blueprint at a very reasonable cost (and at no fee to us once we signed to build with him.) Between the time we bought our lot and started our design process, Robin had brought in his son, Chad, as superintendent. They work well together as a team to get things done and are just generally nice people. We were able to complete our build in a timely fashion and with minimal cost overruns. As with any building/ remodeling project, issues will come up and Chad and Robin were very quick to address them to our satisfaction. I could email them and someone could be on site within a couple of hours to discuss something with me, even with other projects going at the same time. We never felt neglected during the build, and they have been very prompt to address any minor issues that we have had since moving in. We love our new home and have received many compliments from friends and neighbors. If we ever decided to build another home or want to finish our bonus space, we would not hesitate to call Robin Campbell Builders again."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in New-richmond, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
