"They made design recommendations, they responded to our questions promptly, and beat of all, the quality of their work was the best. We are so happy with our porch remodel - it far exceeded our expectations. We’ve used other contractors in the past - but we won’t anymore. No one does better work than Craftsman Renovations."

"Fantastic. I was privileged to have the owner of 123 Home Theater do in the installation. He knew exactly what he was doing, was willing and able to walk me through everything, was able to help me find things like necessary passwords that I had blanked on, and was great about helping me decide the layout of the speakers. I AM THRILLED THAT I CHOSE 1234 Home Theater!"

"Complete Renovations remodeled our two upstairs bathrooms. Jon was exceptionally easy to work with. He is patient and detail oriented, open to suggestions while never hesitating to offer suggestions of his own. He managed a terrific team of subcontractors, scheduling them in a timely manner so the work progressed smoothly and keeping us informed of who would be on site when. Jon was present regularly to keep an eye on things and handle any problems that arose. The result was two new bathrooms with all the changes and additions desired: lovely natural stone tile work in the showers and around the vanities, beautiful custom-made vanity cabinets and linen storage, wall heaters and new lighting, a soaking tub, and toilets converted from wall-hung to floor mounts. We couldn't be more pleased with the finished project and would definitely work with Jon again."

"Patrick came out, and took measurements, and sent me a quote.  It was higher then I had hoped, but I didn't have any indication that it was out of line with what it should be, so I went with it.  My best advice to anyone with a glue down floor is to stop and figure out how you will get the adhesive off, and if you can't, just stop and call Patrick to do the whole job, before you break your back taking up the floor.  When he was done the floor was flat and smooth.  Still some residue left over, which is acceptable for the type of flooring I was planning to install.  Overall Patrick was a great experience in what has turned out to be a exhausting flooring project. Thanks you!"

"The Overall I purchased a house with their tile work already completed. It seems to be successfully keeping my basement dry. The service technician I worked with was excellent, I expect to continue to have their services performed. In addition we attempted to work with them to do estimates on an egress window, tile removal, and full basement remodel. I don't plan on proceeding with additional projects with them. 1. They are consistently the highest cost option. 2. The two sales reps we have work with have been unsatisfactory at communication and converting our goals into a plan of actions. Their price could be justified if you (a) believe they have a superior product [which they might] and (b) they add considerable value in planning/service [which we haven't seen]. If they don't list "John X" as a reference on their promo info. I will happily share my experiences to help ensure you know what to expect. The good. 1. Their phone support in the office is excellent. Friendly people take my calls. 2. They installed a dry basement system in my house for the previous owner. It seems to work. 3. I have the perception they offer quality products that are well thought out to work in basement situations. 4. The service tech that came to our house (4/6/18) was excellent. 5. I think if I wanted just their line of products in their proprietary line they could do a job, but... The Bad. 1. ... if you want them to do anything outside of their wheelhouse they seem to stall and not know how to leverage sub contractors. We asked for comprehensive remodeling, but struggled a lot with leveraging other skilled labor. 2. The estimates we have received don't incorporate the goals and desires we feel that we expressed. My perception has been that they try to sell their main lines of products instead of trying to meet our goals. They will send you a packet of promo info... it will show you their main lines. 3. The time/effort it took to get the initial estimates seems to make it prohibitive to try to work with them to get to a place where we want to be. 3. Terrible follow-through at the sales rep level. We have had two people come to give estimates. The first in Feb 2017 (Chris G), who we never heard back from. Then again in Feb 2018 (Brian K) and it has involved "badgering" to get any sort of movement. 4. Price. Always the highest price when we had multiple estimates."

"Just recently had a 48in x 48in egress window installed in our basement. The 2 gentlemen, Caleb & Graham were nothing short of awesome. I'm a retired carpenter and I can say their craftsmanship was second to none. Clean, precise. I was enjoying the perfect gape in our foundation and the framework even before they installed the window, because it was being done properly. Heck, even the hole they dug for the well was precise. Both Caleb & Graham were very friendly, communicative and courteous. Would use again and highly recommend."

"As stated above we have worked with Mike Zehm. on other projects. On this project we wanted primarly our basement wired for both outlets and lights/switches and half to be dry walled and finished. Our basement is apx 1500 sq feet. we wanted it all wired and and only apx 600 feet finished as an extra living space area for recreation for our son. During the estimate with both Zehm and the electrician we discovered the off-peak basement infloor wiring we had installed when home was built could be hooked up. We had been told that it was bad.  The electrician ran the OHM Test and informed use it either would work or not, since it has been hooked up and it has been working great and is helping heat the entire home. We had another issue with insulation/barrier when I had been wrongly informed that plastic sheeting needed to be removed from direct contact with basement walls, not true. It is code. Mike offered to remove studding and resheet basement walls with a sealed 2" thick foam to solve insulation problem and it has been working great. Dry walling and painting was done and looks awesome as our son said. All and all the project was done very well and we have been very pleased with Mike Zehm's work and workers. They do the job right the 1st time, but if you have issues, Mike will work with you to correct the problem. <br />"

"Scott is wonderful at recycling or preserving what materials do not need replacing. He hauls away all the replaced lumber and offers to haul other pack-ratted items that I had stored but would never need. His son Steve subcontracted for masonry work on my garage remodel. His son Joe has come onto projects as an assistant or prep worker. Scott does excellent work and his pricing is fair. His skill is worth waiting for."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in New Richmond, WI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
