"Ramon was right on time and happily willing to work in a drizzle while dodging a large, thorny rose-bush next to our broken window. We're very happy with the final result, and appreciate how smoothly the whole process went (at a better rate than some of the quotes we received even!) I'd definitely hire Bella's Glass again."

"On short notice, Reza of Horse Glass was agreeable to fit me in his schedule. He and his assistant were prompt and very professional. We wanted to remove a shaky tub enclosure frame and switch to a shower curtain and rod arrangement. They did a fine job of carefully removing the frame and hauling it away, and with an emphasis on not damaging the tile underneath. Cleanup was efficient. Price was fair. I definitely recommend them."

"Nate did an excellent job replacing a broken window pane. He was prompt, responded to my questions and emails quickly, and was very efficient. I requested a quote from Angie's List on a Sunday afternoon, and the broken window glass was replaced less than 24 hours later. The glass that needed to be replaced was frosted and textured. I sent him a picture of the glass, and he was able to match it perfectly. The new pane is an exact match -- it looks perfect. I highly recommend Nate from Different Group Glass."

"Overall, it went pretty well, though there were some gotchas that future customers should be wary of. 1) At the time of the estimate, I specifically asked about whether a permit was needed and if so who was responsible for getting it. FiveStar indicated that a permit would be needed and getting it was their responsibility. However, they did not get it. A city inspector caught them doing unpermitted work on the final day of installation. He was kind enough to let them finish what they were doing with the instruction that they rectify the permit issue afterwards. FiveStar told me that they were trying to save me money by skipping the permit. At no time had I indicated that cutting legal corners to save money was an option. In fact, I would have thought that my questioning about the permit process would have conveyed my interest in doing things according to the city regulations. (I think they were actually saving themselves some expense and effort.) If the inspector had caught them at a different time in the process and been less accommodating and enforced a stop work order, I could have been left with gaping holes in my house for several days while the permit issue was resolved. Lesson learned: ensure that workers have the appropriate permit in hand when they show up for work. 2) I had expected that the house would be tidied up each day after work was completed. That was not the case. Drop cloths and debris cluttered various rooms. This was not a huge deal in my case, but it is something for future customers to clarify with the company. 3) The workers did some repair of cracks in the wall by a couple of the windows. It appears that the mud was flung somewhat sloppily. I found globs of it on adjoining walls and on nearby furniture. Fortunately, the furniture was already somewhat worn, so I could take this in stride. Lesson learned: if you have furniture or other items that you want to ensure are well protected, do it yourself, even though the contract says that they will cover furniture and use drop cloths. 4) Some of the screens did not fit properly, leaving gaps for insects to get into the house. It took two attempts to get the right-size screens. The first attempt failed because the replacement screens were not ordered at the right size, according to the manufacturer. I don't know why the original screens didn't fit properly. This was resolved with some patience (since the screens had to be made to order). Proper fit of the screens is something to watch out for."

FAQs for glass shower door or enclosure repair projects in Newark, CA

The type of glass shower you choose depends on your household size, lifestyle, and budget. Custom designs and frameless doors will cost more to install and repair. Framed glass shower doors can be a more budget-friendly option.

If your glass shower has many people using it daily, you also want to opt for durable glass options, and you’ll need to stay on top of maintenance and repairs.

Regular cleaning and sealing are key to keeping a glass shower door in its best shape. A glass shower door looks great in modern bathrooms, but when the glass is covered in dried water spots or smudged fingerprints, it can make the entire bathroom look messy.

  • Apply water repellent: Water repellent costs about $5 to $10. Use it to help wick away water droplets from the glass.

  • Squeegee the walls: Keep a squeegee in the shower, and use it to remove water from the glass after each shower; this only takes a few minutes.

  • Weekly cleaning: Each week, use a glass-safe cleaner or a foam cleaning eraser to scrub down glass shower walls.

  • Monthly cleaning: Check caulking and reapply as needed to prevent leaks, particularly for frameless doors. Clean the tracks to prevent the door from sticking.

There are several glass treatment options out there that can make it easier to keep your glass shower door clean. Treatments can help keep soap scum, corrosion, and pesky little fingerprints at bay. You might pay as much as a 30% upcharge on the price of your glass shower door to add a protective coating.

Even with a protective coating, you have to clean your shower. If you are diligent about wiping down shower walls after use and giving the glass a more thorough cleaning every week, you can likely save money and skip the added glass treatment.

If your shower endures heavy use from multiple family members and guests, a protective coating can make it easier to keep the glass spotless.
