"Wilson prepped the pad for our barndominium, installed our bioswale, helped with tree removal, Installed our septic, and did our driveway for our custom home build. He was great with dealing with the county for us and made things smooth and easy. All work exceeded our expectations. Great guy and it was great to support a small local family in our area. "

"George is a true professional. I would give 6 stars, if I could. We all have dealt with the contractors who don't call back, don't show up on time or at all and/or never provide a quote. Not George who is very responsive, professional and polite. He did a great job, Put a thick coat of asphalt down. Even neighbors have commented how great the job looks."

"Overall a pleasant and professional experience. Final price was in line with advertisement and quoted price, no surprises or up-charges. Good selection of materials to choose from and excellent turn around time from templeting to installation. Installers showed up on time and were very professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of their surroundings. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them."

"Juan, his son and the rest of the crew did a great job in repairing and installing a16 foot second wall with column to my patio. They also had to remove half of the pavers to re-level the patio and added pavers to fill-in the 3 feet of bed between the house and the patio on the left side of the steps. They were punctual and very professional. They laid down 4x8 plywood from my front driveway around the back of my house for heavier equipment to protect my grass. My wife and I could not be more pleased with the job that they did and plan to have them back next spring to add some lights to the other wall and columns as we really like the one's that they installed on the new wall."

"IT WENT EXTREMELY WELL. WILMINTON STONEWORKS ESTIMATED THAT THE JOB WOULD TAKE 2 DAYS TO COMPLETE. THEY HAD THE PRODUCT DELIVERED A WEEK BEFORE THEY STARTED. DUR TO INCLEMENT WEATHERBOTH I AND WILMINGTON STONE WORKS AGREED TO DELAY UNTIL THE WEATHER WAS MORE FAVORABLE. WITH ADVANCE NOTIFCATION THE SHOWED UP AT THE TIME THEY HAD SPECIFIED AND WORKED UNTIL ALMOST DUSK, EVEN THOUGH THE TEMP THAT DAY WAS IN THE 30'S, THEY SHOWED UP THE FOLLOWING DAY AT THE TIME THEY SAID THEY WOULD AND WORKED THROUGH-OUT THE SECOND DAY COMPLETING THE JOB, DOING SOME GRADING AND CLEANING UP THE ENTIRE AREA, AT THE QUOTED PRICE. <br /> I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS AND WILL WHOLE-HEARTEDLY RECOMMEND WILINGTON STONEWORKS TO ANY ONE REQUIRING MASONRY OR HARDSCAPING SERVICES. I HAVE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM <br /> <br />"

"We have a very long driveway. I requested quotes from three providers. The Sureseal Rep, Jeff, was here within 48 hours and provided a quote slightly higher than the others. We chose this company because they do not spray the coating -- they brush it on. They also treat the cracks several days before sealing the drive. I believe they provided a better quality job. The hardest part was scheduling. Our schedule and theirs didn't mesh, but within a few weeks the job was done and done well. Their three men were here on time, were very thorough and neat. I will definately use them again in the future!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Newark, DE

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
