"Parker and his crew did an outstanding job replacing our old driveway with new asphalt. From start to finish, they were professional, punctual, and easy to work with. The team worked quickly without cutting corners, and their efficiency really stood out. They kept the area clean, communicated clearly throughout the process, and delivered results that exceeded our expectations. The new driveway looks fantastic, and you can tell they take pride in their work. I highly recommend Parker and his guys to anyone looking for quality workmanship and a smooth, stress-free experience."

"Exceptional!!! I cannot recommend them enough. Please call the owner, Rodrigo Ortiz. You will be sooooo glad you did!!! He installed new sod for me in my whole backyard, as well as soil/mulch, and it looks beautiful!! He also installed more dirt in part of the yard to even out the ground, and planted new plants, as well as trimming all plants in the front and back, and mulching the front. My yards finally look finished now!! He walked through the entire process with me, kept in constant phone contact, gave me great pricing, and had all of this work done in a matter of days. He can handle anything and everything. Please contact him about any landscape project you have, no matter how large or small, and he and hus team will do a wonderful, professional job. I highly recommend them!"

"Really well - we have a large lot that historically was not well cared for. Tony and his crew know that we are working to restore native plantings. Native plants can be difficult to identify given how overrun our place is with blackberries and ivy, etc. When they cleared the weeds and overgrowth, we have a number of mature ferns, thimble berries, and other gorgeous plants that they were careful to leave in place - it looks like we have mature landscaping now!"

"The crew was very professional, and Jon was very responsive to our needs. He took the time to explain the details of the project, and answered all of our questions. The crew did a a great job of cleaning up after the job was completed, and Jon had no problem coming back to do a small repair on a paver that had a blemish. Jon's bid for the work was similar to another local landscaper, but thousands less than a national door to door company (Systems Pavers), and he had access to the same materials. He came highly recommended from the guys out at Western Interlock. I would definitely recommend Jon to anyone that asks."

"We recently had a backyard project and hired Milton to do the job. We had 15 yards of dirt and mulch added to our backyard. He and his crew were great ! He was in by 8AM and done by 3PM. He is very good about communication. We had to email several times because WE needed to postpone the date. There was no problem with rescheduling. His team was fast, efficient, and clean. They used the blower and swept our driveway, so there was hardly a trace left. We would definitely hire Milton again in the future"

"My home had two pathways on the north and south sides of our house that we had put in ourselves. The north pathway (rock & cement) was very uneven and moss had made it slick over time. The south pathway was a gravel path with circular cement steppingstones where the stones had shifted position over time. There was also a cement slab off the driveway leading to the gravel path. Both the north and south pathways were uneven to walk on or move anything across its surface. After 29 years, it was time to replace both pathways. I happened to encounter System Pavers at the Portland Outdoor Living Show and contacted them. Design consultant, Lidiana, kept her appointment promptly, she was friendly, and provided good selection choices, lots of examples, and brochures on how I could redesign the pathways. I liked the fact that System Pavers seemed very professional, reliable, and willing to guarantee their work and paving projects. Therefore, I proceeded with signing up for the pathways to be replaced by System Pavers. It was about a week or so later that the project manager, Matt, came out to assess and verify the plans and measurements initially done by Lidiana. I encountered delays in scheduling (a week later from what was originally scheduled) so I had to reschedule all my appointments in order to clear my schedule so I could be available for the crew while the construction was in progress. I wanted to be on-site at home in case there were any questions. The materials for the job were delivered on a Wednesday to my driveway, several days in advance of the work starting, and I was concerned about the materials (i.e. theft concern) since the crew didn’t start until the following Monday. Once the entire project was completed, there were about 2-1/2 pallets of materials leftover that the crew advised were going to the “dump” and I was asked if I wanted any of the leftover material. For this reason, I question why too much material was ordered considering both the design consultant and project manager took measurements of the existing pathways before ordering the materials for the pathways project. I was NOT credited for the excess materials. Which is why I am giving a rating of 4 not 5 stars. The 3-man System Pavers crew started on a Monday and took a week to complete both pathways by the end of the week on Friday. The crew’s start times varied at the start of the week but by mid-week they started about 8am. The crew worked very hard and even worked in the pouring rain on one of the days. From lifting and removing the old steppingstones & gravel, using a jack hammer to remove the old concrete and rock path, removing the dirt & gravel, etc.; the crew did a great job of tearing up and removing the old paths. Then the 3-man crew worked tirelessly to install the layers (gravel, cement, mesh, bricks, polymer sand, etc.) to build both north and south pathways. The crew tried their best to clean up the rocks, dirt, and debris on my driveway as best as they could. Herman even did a great job in moving two of the sprinkler heads so they would be out of the pathway to make for a more aesthetic appearance. I appreciate the crew answering my questions (i.e. Rodger) and being very accommodating to my requests while the work was in progress. Project Manager, Matt L. was very professional. He ensured that the crew did not disrupt or cut any underground cables nor damage sprinklers in place. It gave me peace of mind knowing he was on top of that. He responded to my “text” questions promptly every step of the project. I’m ecstatic about the look of the new pathways… they both look fantastic!! The new pathways really improve the look of the yard. What a relief too, to finally be able to walk on an “even” path. I’m so glad I had System Pavers replace the pathways. Overall, I’m very pleased with the new pathways and the quality of their work. I would recommend System Pavers for their paving work."

"We are very pleased with the landscaping provided by Dave Edson and his Moss Rock crew. Our home has a long and narrow backyard with a hillside that slopes to our back door. We were concerned about water issues and there had been some damage to the structure of the house before we moved in. Moss Rock removed an old deck, an out building with significant rot, some old concrete pavers and old rotten railroad ties that were holding back the hillside. Then he installed new concrete retaining wall, concrete interlocking pavers, a concrete seating wall and three sets of steps. Dave estimated that 100 tons of material was moved in or out of our backyard, all by wheelbarrow because the narrow access prevented using motorized equipment. Dave designed and installed a 15 x 16 foot pergola with single sheet of clear corrugated plastic roofing that has become our favorite “room” of the house. Moss Rock also installed three raised beds in the front of our house. Maybe the most important thing was installing new drains for the downspouts from the roof and perforated pipe across the entire backyard and down the side to the street to carry water away from the house. The work was started right away and the “construction site look” was kept to a minimum. We are thrilled with the results. Nearly as important, Dave kept the mess around our yard and disruptions to our neighbors on our narrow street to a minimum. Moss Rock always showed up when they said they would. I had concerns about the project because it was impossible to tell exactly what would be needed until the old material (railroad ties, building, pavers and decking) were removed. Dave not only kept me informed but worked with us on our suggestions so we understood what the options were and could decide how to proceed."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Newberg, OR

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
