"John and his team were life savers for us- literally! We had hired a different radon mitigation company (nationwide) and needless to say, their system did nothing! I have two little kids and was so frustrated with the levels staying high. I was looking for someone who could possibly repair the existing system which is how I came across radon abatement services. They had videos and pictures on their website, of all the wrong work that was done by contractors. I figured these guys know what they’re doing. And know they did! I had emailed John to tell him our situation and he got back to me and explained everything in detail. He told me what and why our house needed a different system. I had not given him a single penny and he was so gracious to share his expertise with me. Ofcourse, Eventually we hired them to install a new radon mitigation system in our house. Within the day of installment, our levels went down below 4 and have stayed below 2 consistently thereafter. I cannot thank John enough. Their prices were also reasonable. I would give them 10 stars if I could."

"I'm completely satisfied with the work that John's team did. They were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The workmanship is superb. Best of all, the system works as promised and reduced the radon concentration based on subsequent tests. I could not recommend them more highly."

"I carefully read and compared company reviews and have had several home inspections over the years, so I expected a quality inspection from HomeKey but even going into it with high expectations I was still surprised and impressed with the thoroughness and conscientiousness of the inspection. My inspector was Mike, and the home is an older one owned by an elderly person so there were many issues to evaluate. The inspection took much longer than the average amount of time and the report was much longer and required much more work to produce, but there wasn't the slightest hint of rushing any of it or skimping at all. I myself suggested the roof could be skipped because I was worried moss had made it slippery and figured it was surely pretty much gone anyway, but Mike bravely went up there, made sure it was safe, then took a good long while in the heat and returned with photos and an issue that requires immediate attention. Likewise, I was surprised at the willingness to enter a very cramped dirt floor crawl space and proceed around the entire foundation... out of sight into the nether reaches... but I have photographic proof! Those are just two examples out of many, but from under the floors to over the ceilings in attic spaces accessible only through ceiling hatches, Mike examined every detail, took photos, and carefully documented the entire process which resulted in a long, thorough and informative report that will make the purchase decision better informed and provide structure for repair decisions. The price of the service was pretty much the going rate, and thus reasonable. I don't see much spread in the pricing of home inspections across companies, so I would feel cautious of any company that deviated by much. The difference in value for your cost would then be the quality of the inspection. Honestly, the cost of HomeKey's inspection could have been higher and would still have been well worth it for the care, time spent, the information provided, and for the assurance having a trained eye on things can give you."

"I have been a customer of Hedayat for well over 9 years, from the time his ad appeared in Angies List. He is an expert on all things carpets which means as an appraiser, in addition to the cleaning and repair services provided, the quality of the work is the best it gets. My carpets thanks to the care given, all continue to look as they did when I brought them back to the US from the Middle East 14 years ago. I highly recommend Art Connection to those members who are seeking expert evaluation of and care for their prized Oriental carpets."

"Dwight was professional and friendly from the moment he arrived to do a home inspection for us. What stood out and was complimented by our realtor as well was the fact he brought in folding chairs for us to sit in because the house was empty. Even our realtor said she had never had an inspector do that and we were blown away by the thoughtfulness and customer service that showed. Dwight was extremely thorough and made sure to communicate prior to starting, during, and after the inspection. He went beyond explaining recommendations and elaborated in a way I could understand. He was patient while answering questions and overall an absolute pleasure to work with. Our report was emailed in just a couple hours following the inspection. I highly recommend A House on a Rock and thank Dwight for the wonderful experience he provided. "

This is a pile of bat poop in the attic. Bat poop is toxic, and this is going to be an expensive clean-up job.
Looks like the homeowner cut all the trusses in the attic to make room for storage. Unfortunately, those were all structurally important components that they cut.
Typical "flip" plumbing, There is no trap which allows sewer gasses into the home. Plus, even if there was a trap, there was no vent, so it may have siphoned the water out of the trap.

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Nokesville, VA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
