"Emerald Remodeling did a fantastic job helping us take two bedrooms and turn them into a primary suite with bathroom. Jim, the owner of Emerald Remodeling, was very visible throughout the process, checking in on the progress of the project daily. We were very impressed with his communication skills and commitment to completing the project by the deadline. We will definitely hire Emerald Remodeling again!"

Small jobs welcome

"Other contractors hardly call back especially for small jobs, but Twin City Tiling called right away and came out to view and quote the work. The small job was quickly scheduled and is now done. Looks nice!"

"Nolan is very receptive to design choices/changes along the way. A workers schedule was sent to me, so I knew what was going on for the week. All the trades were very nice and their work was cleaned up everyday. Basement project exceeds my expectations! Thanks Nolan and team!"

"I acted as general contractor on a major kitchen/dining room and master bath remodel and relied on Joel's remodeling experience.  Joel is very creative and provided great design ideas.  We love the broom cabinet he incorporated into an otherwise unusable space.  The cabinet above the microwave has dividers that allow us to efficiently store cookie sheets and other baking pans.  Several of the lower cabinets have sliding shelves which make it easy to see and retrieve pots and pans, etc.  The drawer next to the stove has a built-in spice rack; the drawer for the silverware includes built in dividers for the knives, forks and spoons.  Another area includes a coffee station and place for our toaster.   <br> <br>The cabinets are well made and we enjoy the soft close hardware.  The cabinets are painted white so the black walnut island table and range hood stand out, provide contrast and add interest to the room.  Joel also created a custom black walnut vanity for our master bathroom remodel.  Everything is custom so all design ideas or problems are solvable.  Joel is a great partner and will explore ideas with you and respectfully challenge your pre-conceived ideas. <br> <br>Our remodel included an arched opening into the dining room.  I constructed the arch myself.  Joel noticed the arch had "too much" curve.  Seemed ok to me, but I took Joel's advice and softened the curve.  Now that the project is complete I see how the softer curve is more aesthetically appealing.  I appreciate that Joel is passionate about the overall success of the project and not just his part. <br>"

"Rob Krajewski handled our complete basement remodel this past spring. We had some water/sewage backup that would require major repairs, so we took the opportunity to upgrade everything downstairs. New drywall, flooring, and the addition of a bathroom/laundry was the plan. His expertise in planning, purchasing of materials and appliances extremely helpful. We absolutely love the finished project; a rec area and a complete downstairs guest "suite" suit our needs perfectly."

"Great, we have no complaints... we would definitely recommend the company to our family and friends. When telling people we were getting our basement waterproofed and people were asking who was doing the basement... we heard nothing but good things about Complete Basement Systems!"

"We needed someone to inspect our microwave roof vent to determine if it was operating properly. Christian from Northrup Roofing & Remodeling inspected the vent and determined it was working correctly but the microwave blower motor wasn't producing enough air flow. Thank you Christian and Northrup for a job well done!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in North Branch, MN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
