"Wes and his team saved us from a terrible situation! We recently had our bathroom completely redone by a contractor who we didn't really know, and the work wasn't done well. We called in Wes, having worked with him several years ago to tile our kitchen, and he came by to take a look. Thank goodness he did! After his initial assessment, he knew right away that our "new" shower was likely leaking, and that there were multiple issues with both the tile and the structure of the shower itself. Wes coached us through buying the materials that we would need, and drew up a contract to get going on the project as soon as possible. After demolition, the problems really became apparent! All kinds of leaks, CUT FLOOR JOISTS, and other incredibly sketchy shortcuts from the original contractor. Wes walked us through the best strategy to fix everything and his team worked diligently to correct all of the issues and tile the shower beautifully. We will be working with Wes again for many more projects, particularly fixing the floor in this bathroom, which was also a hack job. He has been professional and courteous in all of our dealings with him, he shows up on time when he says he will, answers all of our questions truthfully and in depth, and he cleaned up after himself at the end of every day and at the end of the job, which is always a huge bonus! Thanks to Wes and his team for their hard work to get us the shower of our dreams, and save us from a mess further down the line."

"I don't know where to start about the awful work that they did. John Asselin, the owner of the company is a talker who can't meet what he says. I can't even count how many times that John lied to me. 1. He said that he used the grout that he had in my bathroom floor & walls instead of the grout I got because his was better and had waterproofing in it. He still used the grout I got and didn't even use the waterproofing sealant that came with it. All the grout I got was mixed up and the additives boxes were open and used. 2. He said he would put the sealant on the kitchen floor after grouting. He never did that, and the bottle of sealant remains unopened. 3. He said he took the tiles along the wall around the outside corner out, recut them, put new tiles in, and redid that whole area. The tiles on there were chipped at all the same places and still at the same crooked angles as previously so there was no way that ever happened. 4. He said he would wipe up the grout and mortar that was on the floor up, clean everything up and remove the ram board. Grout and mortar are still stuck on all the same places of my solid oak floor, my bathtub still has leftover grout and mortar on it, and the ram board on the first floor is still there. 5. He said he would remove the vanity from my house and take it away, that was never done. 6. He said he would make perfect cuts around the toilet, instead the cuts were not even the shape of the toilet. Before: They told me that they usually don't sign contracts, which was a red flag. So I drafted one up and they signed it eventually. They were also available in a few weeks, which was another red flag. All the flooring contractors in this area are usually booked months to half a year out. They also had awful reviews online and were previously Hampshire Flooring Company, but I always believe that people change for the better so why not put your trust into them? But then of course, this experience once again told me that you should never do that. During: I called him and brought up all the issues I had in the process and communicated some through email. He assured that every one of them would be taken care of. But they weren't and when I brought them up again, he assured me again that he'll fix it and do it right. He never did. After: A picture is worth a thousand words. As you can see in those 40 photos that don't even fully cover half of what's wrong with his work, there is no section of wall or floor tile that is flat or level. They go up and down and protrude in and out, and there are no straight or clean lines. They did not do 45 degrees inner angles, which you're supposed to do when laying wall tile in corners. They just butted tile up against each other! They chipped the tiles while cutting it and just decided to put the chipped tiles on! The chipped tiles stick out on the outside corners and most of the tiles were laid down crooked! They got grout all over my solid oak floors and didn't clean it up. They made ugly cuts and chipped the tile in the process. They left a terrible mess that still awaits me to clean up. There is still grout and mortar everywhere on my solid oak floors, toilets, door handles, etc. Did I mention that they only grouted half of one tile? They were supposed to do my basement floor, but I am terminating that. I brought up many issues and problems during the process that they assured me would be fixed but never did. Other contractors and friends came by and were all aghast at the work. They unanimously agreed that it was unacceptable and urged me not to give Earth First Flooring and Tile the remaining payment and to cancel the work on the basement before it even begins and that is what exactly I will do."

FAQs for vinyl or linoleum sheet flooring or tiles installation projects in North Amherst, MA

For planks, you’ll need an extra 10% to cover waste. For sheet floors, expect to waste at least 20%.

A square yard of vinyl is 9 square feet. Typically, you’ll pay $18 to $45 to have a professional purchase and install a square yard.

Vinyl flooring thickness matters for both durability and feel. Thicker floors have a more cushioned feel to them and typically have a thicker wear layer.

Vinyl plank floors typically come in 8- and 9-inch widths, though a few brands offer widths up to 12 inches.

How many tiles you’ll need depends on the area of your floor and the size of the tiles you’re using. To get an exact number for your floor, use our resilient tile calculator.

To find out how much sheet laminate you need for your floor, enter the width and length into the calculator above.

To cut a vinyl plank, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. However, there are two common methods:

  1. Score it with a utility knife and then “snap” the plank.

  2. Use a miter, circular or chop saw.
