"The grout around the old 4-inch tiles in our little bathroom could not handle the use from 5 people. It was always so hard to clean—beyond help. I couldn’t stand it but I didn’t want a big extensive job because we hope to do a bigger renovation someday. Jan 28, 2016: We wanted vanities for 2 bathrooms and base and upper cabinets for a kitchen expansion. We were hoping to take advantage of free design services from Kitchen Design Center of Framingham (KCOF).

The cabinets did not meet our expectations. Instead of getting bathroom vanities we received kitchen cabinets for the bathrooms, meaning the vanities were significantly deeper than normal bath vanities. We provided the cabinet designer with specs for our bath sinks but the designer neglected to check to see if the sink would fit into the cabinet that they designed. After the marble counter was already produced we found out that the sink wouldn't fit and the solution proposed by Kitchen Design Center of Framingham was to cut down the sides of the cabinet and drawer boxes significantly. This solution was unacceptable and would void our warranty. Instead we found a replacement sink which would fit the cabinet and replaced the marble counter. Kitchen Design Center of Framingham refused to take any responsibility for their design error. Reluctantly, Kitchen Design Center of Framingham agreed to split the cost of the replacement marble counter, but insisted that these sorts of design issues happen all the time - yikes! In reality, we paid $580 for "free" design services.

The kitchen cabinets installation was also disappointing. None of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts line up as they should. The installers insisted that the cabinets were installed in the best possible way and said that it isn't possible to align the doors and drawer fronts, blaming the situation on the Wood Mode cabinets. During the design process we weren't notified that this would be the case. In fact, we don't believe that Wood Mode would make cabinets which didn't allow alignment of doors and drawer fronts. In fact, the entire rest of our kitchen is Wood Mode cabinets which align very nicely.

March 16, 2016: Following our initial review, Dave Bartlett at KCOF contacted us to see what could be done to rectify the situation. He agreed to pay the remaining balance ($580) for the marble countertop that wasn't used due to the sink change. He also agreed to come to the house and look at the door and drawer alignment issues. During his visit, he identified 2 issues and arranged to have these issues addressed. As a result, the alignment on the drawer and cabinet doors is improved.

"From beginning to end, Joe and his crew were the picture-perfect example of a great contractor. He was always on time, returned calls and texts, was an expert in his field, creatively solved problems as they arose during the work (always coming to me with the issue, why it was an issue, several ways to solve the problem, and his recommendation for the best solution), and best of all the cost of the job didn't change even as the details of the work did (more to come on this). His crew was very courteous, hard-working, and cleaned up every day so that my young kids still had room to play outside around the house without danger from the equipment and materials that were left on-site. 

My house is very large with a number of odd features, and we selected high-end manufactured materials (pre-painted, with long warranties on paint and overall life span) and so the cost was high as I expected. Given that investment, I didn't want to cheat myself on the installation crew and their capabilities, and I felt that Joe was the right guy for the job after having him come out, look over the scope of the work, discussing the details and material options, and getting an estimate.

I think the most telling aspect of Joe as a contractor was that the price didn't change even as the details of the work did. Some of the changes included more aluminum trim than planned (instead of PVC, due to the manner in which the original window trim was installed), and having his crew install a replacement sliding door once we realized that the old door had mechanical issues that couldn't be overlooked. He also volunteered his guys to help remove an 8-person hot tub once the old slider was removed (the room was built around the tub, so the only way to ever get it out in one piece was with the slider removed), and although we ended up not doing that (we couldn't lift the tub out of it's hole!), I'm sure he would not have added to the bill for that extra effort of his guys. His mantra is "I don't change the total". Every other contractor nickels-and-dimes me on the job, but Joe didn't. Maybe that means he includes a larger buffer in his estimate to account for those changes, but in the end I would rather have a locked-in price up front like this.

Overall, this was a great experience, we're extremely happy with the end result, and I highly recommend Joe "The Siding Guy" to anyone with siding, gutters, and/or window and door replacement. Thanks Joe!

Four different options were provided, from replacing a leaking faucet to replacing the sink and faucet, with prices for each.

I choose to replace the sink and have a new faucet installed.

The work was documented and completed on schedule.  I'm very happy with the results.
