"I use him for my association stuff. He’s not the lowest price, but he does a great job. You would like the finished product. He did some work for me personally, he has done work for some of the neighbors here in Greenboro where I live; and he also did some work for the home owners association when I was president. He did a good job on that. He does great work, he doesn’t do things cheap. All I know is that anything he does, it’s a good project and people are happy. It is good quality. He happens to live in the development next to me, I know Ben, his brother. He is very responsive. I probably would use them because I know if I asked him to do it, if the price was definitely reasonable; I would be happy with the product. If I was trying to do it cheap then I wouldn’t use them. He doesn’t want to do stuff that looks bad or that looks cheap."

"When I moved into my home the lawn had been neglected for a few years, was brown and overridden with weeds- over the course of a few months the weeds were dead and grass was growing well in previously patchy areas. Also installed my irrigation system and handled some landscape work on time and on budget- I continue to use for ongoing lawncare and would hire for landscaping again. Thanks!"

"The owner is Joey Griesel. He was responsive. He did not get upset in making changes. He had suggestions, he had ideas. He and his crew came to work. He brought in his two gentlemen who were here all day, putting in stone, and digging and stuff like that. Other than taking a drink break or lunch they worked they did not stop. When they had to do the back yard they had to haul and dispose a whole lot of dirt and throw it away. . They had to use a wheel barrow because we could not bring in a front load or anything. They did not complain even once that I saw. They were just phenomenal with their work. The work that I thought would take three days, took one day and they cleaned up everything that they brought in. I don't know if these guys do it on their own but when they left at the end of the day you could barely tell that they were there other than that they cleaned up and the rest of the yard looked like junk. They did everything right. They have a phenomenal group of guys. I highly rate them for anybody who wants landscaping done. He was very reasonably priced. If he ran into a problem he would tell you his problem like he had mistakenly priced the stone and the stone was now this price and not what he had initially estimated and asked me if I would help him. I told him to charge me the difference. He had to borrow a couple of tools because it was easier for them to borrow mine than go and get them and they cleaned them off and put them back. I will use them again."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Norwalk, IA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
