"A1 Radon Services was the 3rd company that we worked with for our Rosemount house and the only one who was able to solve the problem. The house was built in 1978 and did not have drain tile inside the basement footings making it hard to properly remove the radon. A1 Radon worked with me to investigate and eventually find the radon hotspot. Once found, they added the required suction points and now our levels are within safe levels. They were very easy to work with and the cost was reasonable considering the number of visits required."

"Radon Stoppers did a great job installing a radon mitigation system in our home in Minneapolis. It was very straightforward to get an estimate and schedule the installation. Pat was happy to explain how a radon mitigation system works and where it would be installed. They guarantee that the system will reduce the radon to a safe level for the quoted price with no surprise charges, and also provide a 5 year warranty. We are very happy with our new radon mitigation system."

"Professional in every aspect. The owner, Walt Fitzmaurice, is very knowledgeable and took the time to explain what would be done and when. Top marks for communication, timeliness and quality of work. Easy, no pressure sale. Walt and his crew did an amazing job mitigating radon from our basement! Very respectful working in the house, and there was nothing for me to clean up after they left. All around a good experience. Walt left a measurement device to assess success of the mitigation. Radon level went from 5.8 pCi/L to < 0.3 pCi/L. Two visits (quote, installation) and it was done. Walt come to our house to look at how to route the system. He wasn't in a hurry and explained everything to me in layman's terms. On the day of the install, they arrived promptly, at 09:15 and explained what they were going to do. No electrical work was required. Existing outlet in attic from a 1985 project. The vent pipe runs from a basement store room into the attached garage and to the attic where the fan is located, the roof vent is on the back side of the garage and is not noticeable. You cannot hear any fan noise. The installation was finished by 2:00 p.m. I would highly recommend Advanced Radon Services."

"Another contractor said I may have clay under my basement floor and that the above mentioned type of system would not work. Mr. Frank from EES did more testing and analysis and said he could make it work. In fact, he only had to install one suction point in the floor and none in the walls to make it work. Apparently the first company that checked my basement did not drill their test holes in the right spots. <br /> Before mitigation the radon level in the basement was 7.2 pCi/L and after the job was done it was 1.3. He guaranteed a level below 3.0.  <br />"

"A+ It went great! Doug was early, and already had the out buildings inspected before I arrived. This left me time to focus on the home, which was the bulk of the inspection time. I really appreciated that, since I was on my lunch, and I am more concerned about the home than the other buildings. Doug was very thorough and explained why he would either flag or not flag an item. He explained what to look for when it comes to settling of a home, which eased my mind. It is also convenient that Doug has his own Radon detector. He set it up two days before the inspection date so we could review the preliminary results together. TEST FOR RADON! The price was very reasonable for something so important. It was high in this house, which is common for homes in MN and WI. I was then able to ask the owner to install a radon mitigation system."

"Rick and crew kept at it after first effort resulted in still-too-high radon levels. This if not uncommon, and Rick added solutions until a good test was achieved, at no additional cost. Would highly recommend."

"These guys are wonderful people and great to work with! They really go above and beyond, where do I start...Firstly, Midwest Radon does things right. I had multiple bids to install a new radon system in our house we just purchased as the levels came in higher than what the EPA considers safe. They guaranteed radon levels below 2 pCi/L, which was the lowest levels when comparing bids. Secondly, Jack, John, and Mike are all professional and flexible to the homeowner's needs. Communication and timeliness was not an issue at all, they kept me informed and showed up when they said they were. Midwest Radon told me that they will pull the appropriate permits, and get an electrician to install the outside outlet to power the system. Not all of the other contractors were going to pull the permits and get an electrician to do the work, these guys do it the right way! Not to mention, Midwest Radon's bid was extremely fair, considering the additional cost of the permits and the peace of mind that you get with someone from the city coming out to make sure the work is completed within code. Once the work was done, they cleaned up well. Other than the visible radon mitigation system, I couldn't tell they drilled two holes in my basement to complete the install. Lastly, I had an issue with a neighbor about the radon system. John and Mike were more than happy to make a trip to my house to figure out a solution (free of charge) that works for myself and my neighbor, which we ultimately did. Never, did I feel dismissed by them or I wasn't as important as someone who is about to pay for a new system. I'm confident that if I ever have any other issues, I could call them and they'd be willing to do anything reasonable within their control. The biggest shame is that these guys only install radon mitigation systems, I'd be comfortable using them with any work that needs to be done in my house."

"Jamie gave us the good news and bad news. They also did a refrigerant charge on my old unit to get us by until they were able to install the new AC and furnace. Also caught the need for grounding of our gas line to bring it up to current building code."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Stillwater, MN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
