"My spec home came with carpeted basement stairs that I didn’t care for at the beginning and after nearly three years of wear the builder grade product was looking shabby. The first contractor I discussed changing the surface to hard wood said it could not be done; the second might be able to do the conversion but wasn’t interested in the job. I found H&H Hardwood through Angie’s List and was pleasantly surprised. Mr. Fier responded to my voice mail promptly and arrived at the appointed time to study the project. He was incredibly thorough and clearly discussed alternatives. He promised a detailed proposal in a few days and produced the most detailed project description I’ve encountered in the course of many remodeling projects. After reaching an agreement and establishing a schedule, Dan and his crew arrived promptly each day, tackled the carpet removal, tread modifications and structural improvements in an organized, professional manner. The existing shop built stairs were refaced with ½” red oak and the finished project exceeds expectations. It would be difficult to find evidence that these steps were not constructed with hard wood at the initial build. After a good discussion I decided to have the stairs finished with Rubio Monocoat versus the more traditional stain covered by multiple layers of polyurethane. The penetrating Monocoat offers easier touchups and a much shorter application/curing time versus urethane. Dan made every effort to match the engineered hardwood flooring covering my main floor and the stain match is excellent. In short I am very pleased to recommend H&H Hardwood of Front Royal, VA for your hardwood needs. In this era where customer service is so often a forgotten skill, it was wonderful to deal with a pleasant person who clearly knows his business, arrives on time, leaves the premises spotless after every workday and provides an excellent product."

"We contacted District Floor Depot when we were moving into a new house to possibly refinish existing wood floors. Once we (...they!) fully removed the carpets and saw the condition of the floors, we decided to install LVT instead and only refinish the wood staircase. "Brian from Torres flooring reached out to me immediately after I submitted my request, and quickly gave me a quote and did the repair that day! We had a small section of our vinyl floor cut out by our previous owners to install a wooden railing. We removed the railing and needed the flooring patched with some of the flooring we had stored away. "The floors came out very nicely. the stain plus two coats of oil-based polyurethane really gave the floor a great satin finish. They could have done a better job of dust control. Only when I asked the workers to isolate the kitchen did they put up plastic sheeting but that was between sandings so dust had already infiltrated everything. Wiping down every shelf and horizontal surface has been a big pain. The dust even landed upstairs in the bedrooms. They left rub marks on my walls from the equipment hoses or power cords. They also forgot to plug in my clothes dryer. (They used the 220v outlet for the floor sander.) Their price was the best though and i only point out the negatives to help others avoid the dust problem. I wish I had known about dust mitigation techniques so I could have insisted more firmly on taping thoroughly plastic sheeting over doorways to keep the fine dust out. My house was empty before I moved in so that made the project a lot easier."
