"All Trax was absolutely fantastic to work with, I wish we had found them first! They were incredibly responsive, understanding, and made sure the project direction and outcome were completed as we envisioned. They took the time to walk through a ton of options with us to ensure we had the best result at the best price. I would highly recommend All Trax to anyone in the area who needs excavation, a new gravel road/driveway, or driveway/road repair!"

"My gravel driveway in Black Mountain, NC had needed repairs for a long time and the situation became much worse after a plumbing company installed a new sewer line under it. I contacted David Gibson about repairing the driveway as he had previously done excellent work in fixing my foundation that was settling. David and his crew arrived when expected and had to excavate and install extra sub base and gravel due to the much deteriorated condition of my driveway. I am very pleased with the work and I highly recommend him for fixing any driveway or foundation problems."

"On the fence about who to use for your next project? Stop searching and use V&V Land Management. You will not be disappointed! I have used them multiple times at different locations for land clearing and landscape design/installation, culvert installation and repairs (of others work), gravel driveway repairs (of others work) and road building. They do not cut corners and will give you an honest assessment of what needs to be done so that it is completed correctly the first time. Most recently, I worked with Zach on a land clearing project and Charlie on landscape design/installation. I could not have been more pleased with the level of professionalism they afforded us and their positive attitudes while adapting to the multitude of changes as the project progressed. You couldn't ask for a better team working hard for you. I recommend V&V without hesitation!"

"We couldn't be happier with the work they did. They made excellent tree and shrub selections and were so great to work with. They made a paver patio on our side porch and it looks fantastic. Very trustworthy and honest along the way and never steered us in the wrong direction. Everything they did was what we expected and now our landscaping looks like it was always supposed to be there. Rick was awesome and real friendly with his approach. thanks guys!"

"We recently had some work done by Matt Smith and his crew. We would be happy to recommend him for any stonework you could want. Mat’s crew of five or six men are a wonder. They are hard-working, obviously very strong, and take great pride in the quality of their work. They will take time to answer any questions you might have, and they are thoughtful, polite, neat and tidy, and know their jobs. The stone patio they made for us is beyond anything we could have hoped for. At the end of the job they did a thorough cleanup and left our place neat and tidy. I might mention that Matt studied with Tomas Lipps, the founder and editor of Stonemasonry Magazine and one of America’s finest stone masons. It’s no wonder that Matt is in demand. My final bit of praise is in regard to the cost: it was quite reasonable— I’m happy to say. I wish we had another job for Stonesmith to take on."

"I called around 9:30 a.m. and explained what I needed. I ordered four tons of gravel, but then called back and reduced it to three tons. I asked if they could come out the same day, and they said they could work that out. They arrived only a few hours after I called them, which was great.
I later noticed they had overchared me by ten dollars. I called and the person who answered the phone immediately acknowledged it, saying his Visa charges hadn't balanced the night before. We agreed they'll apply the $10 to the next time I order gravel from them, which is fine with me.
If you need gravel at a fair price and need it quickly, I would not hesitate to recommend these folks."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Old Fort, NC

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
