"Holt Landscaping did our entire backyard several months ago, and we're still 100% satisfied. They installed lawn, concrete, plants, flower beds, rock, and wood chips. From planning the layout to completing the project, it was abundantly clear how much Gary cares about his customers and wants to deliver a product that they will actually love. We had considered several other companies in the area, and ultimately it was confidence that Gary would look after our project as if it was for someone in his own family. He did, and we couldn't be more grateful."

"It was excellent. They were always on time, the workers even worked in the blazing sun, and there was no language barrier. The schedule always ran right on time. We are in the Del Webb Community and they represented us at the committee meeting. They had drawings and explained exactly what we wanted to do to get approval. We definitely recommend them."

"They were professional. Used bead blasting technique with tiny glass beads with protective covers on exposed plastic components. After cleaning was complete, they used a vaccum to remove the glass beads from the pondsand surrounding areas. Final scraping with a metal tool in hard to reach areas completed the job. <br /> Minor negative: Later, I found that they left some of the used glass beads on a square foot of lawn, most of which I cleaned up. The residual glass beads are inhibiting the grass growth in that area. I still need to reclean that lawn area. <br />"

"I needed stone to reface my fireplace, which had dark green marble on it.  Very outdated and not at all to my taste.  I tried two masons on Angie's List but neither of them seemed capable of sustaining a conversation or returning calls.  I went to Rustic Brick to buy stone and also to ask if they could recommend a mason.  Bryan at Rustic Brick was extremely helpful, patient, and attentive. I feel that I got a good price on quartzite stone panels and travertine stone for the hearth.  Bryan placed the order and was on the spot to let me know when it came in.  He also recommended a mason, Joe Porto, Jr. of Topline Masonry and coordinated with Joe to pick it up.  Meanwhile, Joe came out to my house, gave me an estimate, and performed the work quickly and efficiently a couple of weeks after I placed my order with Rustic.  Joe even came back on a Sunday to effect a couple of very small repairs. <br /> The cost of 10 square feet of quartzite panels and 11 square feet of travertine was $180.  Joe charged $600 for his work, which was excellent and took all of a morning. <br /> I really can't say enough good things about Rustic and Joe Porto. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Spoke with "T" who was very professional and easy to talk with. <br /> <br /> He was a good listener and gave advice on using rock for drainage and for other related project areas. <br /> <br /> For example, I wanted something that could be placed over dirt so that rain would not cause mud and <br /> <br /> I needed a material that wouldn't get on your shoes and discolor the indoor carpet (like shredded bark). <br /> <br /> Using gravel or other rock was suggested. <br /> <br /> I left with a good feeling because talking to "T" helped me make progress in what I was going to do in my backyard."

"We had been trying to install a patio in our backyard for several months to replace a damaged wooden deck that a previous owner had built (and bulit very poorly at that). With our own labor, we had demolished the deck, attempted to shore up the wooden patio cover, and excavated a pit for a paving stone patio... and then we ran out of gas. After calling several contractors, we finally chose John Irwin and Royal Garden Landscaping, as he indicated that he could do all the work that we wanted, which included re-using pavers that had been installed elsewhere in our yard for the new patio and doing some work on the patio cover to anchor it more securely. <br /> The weekend before the work started was the tail end of the big storm system that swept through Northern California in early December, so the entire backyard was flooded, including the pit that we had dug for the foundation of the patio. John came over on a Saturday afternoon with a sump pump that he loaned us to drain the yard, and the work started the following Monday. <br /> The entire week was on and off rain, but the Royal Garden Landscaping crew worked tirelessly over several days to complete the job. The mason did a great job, and the prep crew worked their butts off to get everything ready for the installation. When it came time to work on the patio cover, there were some significant difficulties for the crew, as the existing structure, like the deck that it once covered, was not especially well-built, but they literally worked into DARKNESS (remember this was early December) to get the work done. The entire job took four days total (an additional day was lost due to rain) and finished by Friday evening. John returned with the mason and the carpenter once the work was completed to do some follow up work, and he also made sure that the clean up was done properly. We are very happy with our new patio and appreciate all the work that John Irwin and Royal Garden Landscaping did to get it done in a timely and professional manner. <br />"

"Casey was the most responsive and accurate of the 3 landscapers we received bids from. We did provide well-defined plans, which helped a lot in eliminating any misunderstandings of what was desired. We also provided a detail change sheet listing clarifications to details on the plans. Casey and Ben showed up on time the first day to demolish the existing front lawn. They were very careful of shrubbery we wanted to keep. They were very thoughtful about the impact on us of their activities. At the end of each day, they cleared the site and provided easy access to the front door. We only had to go in the back two days while the concrete was curing. Andy did an excellent job on the concrete. Before beginning a new phase of the project, we would talk through the plans and the change sheet so they knew exactly what to do. They had great suggestions that we worked into the design. We used email to document all change requests. Casey responded quickly, and he provided a copy of the email to his crew so they knew what we had agreed upon. Casey contacted me promptly if there was going to be a delay. There were very few delays, and the project went very smoothly. The final cost exceeded the estimate, but it was due to our change requests. The cost of the requests were agreed upon before they were made. We are very pleased with the end result and getting there was a lot of fun. Great guys and good work, it doesn't get any better than that!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Oregon House, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
