"The owner thoroughly explained the job he was going to do and showed the materials he would use. He called me himself to set up the appointment. His team was mannerly and each did his own job. The team worked well together and completed the job in one day. I was amazed! The owners, father and son, were here with the team the whole time. They even hauled away some items I wanted to get rid of and offered to come back to move things back into.place. in addition, the price was much less than I expected and was started and completed within a few days of the initial contact."

"JES Foundation Repair (A Groundworks Company) proposed a solution for my basement wall reinforcement, and waterproofing. I accepted, and a date was set. They did not show up and it took 8 phone calls and 24 hours to find out that they weren't confident in their proposal. They increased the scope and added 50% to the cost. Stupidly, I signed again as time was wasting and I didn't want to start over with new vendors. JES completed the work while I was out of town. When I got back, there had been heavy rain and there was more water in my basement then I had ever experienced. I contacted my rep via text (impossible to get through by phone as he always was in "Training" when I called). His response was " That doesn't look good, I'll make some calls". I had to make the calls. JES sent several new employees out and they proposed additional work at ADDITIONAL cost. Unable to get satisfaction from mgmt. Had another foundation company finish the job. Do not use!"

"Josh, the representative from Basement Gurus was outstanding! We had experienced a water issue in our finished basement. Josh thoroughly examined the interior and exterior of the home and determined that the leak might be plumbing related. Josh could have very easily exploited our ignorance and suggested a solution purely beneficial to his company that may not have addressed the underlying cause of the problem. Instead, he demonstrated his integrity by realistically assessing the situation even if it would jeopardize the sale. This is commendable particularly in this era where cutthroat business practices are commonplace. I highly recommend Basement Gurus. They are fortunate to have an employee like Josh who exhibits concern for the customer at such a high level. "

"We had a really great experience with On Call Contracting to address a hard-to-find leak in our house. John provided a comprehensive initial assessment of potential root causes and thoroughly explained how he would systematically investigate each one. OCC communicated promptly and provided service that went above-and-beyond - when they had to clear out the cabinet under our sink to get access, they put back everything more organized than they had found it! Overall very satisfied with OCC and won’t hesitate to call them in the future."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Oreland, PA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
