"First he was late, approximately 15 minutes late, which was disappointing since I understand now that many inspectors arrive a little early so that they can finish looking at the perimeter of the house. He had my realtor, my husband and me waiting after we rushed from work. He was also late when picking up the radon test when my realtor was waiting for him.
Overall, Mr. Polo knows his stuff. He spoke very knowledgeably about things. He also went under the deck to do a good oil tank sweep even though he said he usually doesn't do that. So I give him credit for thoroughness in that regard. In the end, if you just want a guy who will walk through the house, point out stuff you need to pay attention to while you take notes, then he's your guy. But if you are a first-time homebuyer and need someone who will do more hand-holding, show you how to turn off the water main, and stuff like that for example, or give you a really detailed report with pictures and arrows, then Mr. Polo is not the one for you. I learned this the hard way, but due to time constraints I couldn't get the inspector I originally wanted. Mr. Polo though accommodated my schedule, but in the end his services fell short.  His report is almost incomprehensible. There are unfinished sentences and no pictures, but he does get it to you quickly.  So if time is a factor that's another reason to hire him. But like I said, if you're a new homebuyer and need the report as a reference for future fixes and are not good at jotting notes during the inspection, then I would recommend going elsewhere if possible.

The tech, Jared was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained some issues with the furnace and did not recommend putting the money into it to fix at this point as the furnace is old but safe and is in working order. He did suggest to replace the furnace in a about a year rather than put 1,000 into it at this point. The furnace is not running efficiently and we know it has not been for quite a while.

Purchasing this house 18 years ago and the furnace being older already , we knew it would have to be replaced eventually.

"Marino's Water Works was great on a crazy snowy Saturday afternoon (3 feet of snow on the ground, more coming down) when our water pump stopped working. Answered our call immediately, arrived at our house within an hour, fixed the problem (a lightning strike had incapacitated the pump, requiring soldering wires and then flipping the circuit breakers). What a relief! Getting out of our driveway proved a terrible challenge -- ice and snow on a sloping curve -- but we figured it out together with a tremendous amount of good humor and calm. They worked neatly and cleaned up everything when they were done. I am so pleased with their work.
