"Initial meeting with owner, Mark Spencer, went very well on August 29th, 2016. No pressure from Mark to buy. Assured that if I went with him I would have his brother-in-law James doing the install. This was a big selling point for me as I did not want a sub- contracted crew in my home that Legacy could not vouch for. During meeting on August 29th I was told that my windows and doors would be ordered as soon as I paid a down payment and signed a contract. On September 2, 2016 Mark brought out samples of the exact type of window we would be getting and my husband and I signed the contract and paid Mark $12,872.00 which was half of the total cost. I was told my windows would take 4-6 weeks from this time. My contract with Mark at Legacy states that the projected end date will be October 2016. Mark emailed me on Sept. 7th that my information was entered into the Polaris system, but that he would send someone on Friday Sept. 9th to make sure the sizes were correct. This was done. I emailed Mark on September 9th asking if there was a possibility the work would be complete by October 16th because I was hosting an event at my home. Mark emailed back there was a good chance this was possible. On October 13th I emailed Mark to see if he had hear anything about my order. On October 14th he responded that it would be another 3 weeks since my patio doors and kitchen windows were special order due to the fact they had built in blinds. He told me that these have longest turn a round time at Polaris. Needless to say October came and went. If I wanted to see what was happening I was the one that had to contact Mark Spencer. On November 8th I received an email saying that my order will be here right before Thanksgiving. He gave me his reps name and number saying the delay was all on Polaris and his rep would verify. Supposedly I had a "HYPER CUSTOM ORDER" according to Mark. I will say the kitchen windows and doors did have built in blinds, but my garage, dining room, upstairs bedroom windows and great room windows did not have blinds. I pointed this out to Mark wondering why all of those rooms weren't ready to be put in, but not given an answer. November 18th and I get an email from Mark saying my windows will be in on Wednesday the 23rd and they will set up install after Thanksgiving at the first of the week. Work began on Tuesday, November 29th and was finally completed on Saturday December 3rd. Let me tell you this before I continue. The ONLY saving grace with Legacy windows and Mark Spencer is the super qualified, kind and attentive installers that he had come to my home. Instead of his brother-in-law, I was introduced to Beth, Darrell and Justin. These three did an amazing job of removing rotted out wood windows, rotten sliding doors, replacing rotten wood under doors and cleaning up after themselves. I would have loved to be able to give them their own rating as they deserve an A+ for everything that they have done to make this experience better. Amazing installers is what kept me from giving Legacy a lower rating. On Saturday, I paid the installers the remaining $12,872.00 without having Mark come back on Saturday to see if I was happy with the work and to make sure that everything was working. When I told Mark how frustrated I was with how long the order had taken he told me that Polaris is the worst company for how long it takes to get custom products. He apologized profusely, however, apologies don't work when you are pushed aside and don't have what you are promised. I wanted to see for myself that this was all on Polaris and their fault so I called them today at their headquarters in Ohio. I still have over 30 windows that I will be replacing in my home and wanted to see where the real delay came from. I gave Polaris my order number (can be found on stickers inside window when they are opened). I was told that my order was not actually placed on Setember 7th but rather placed much later on September 21st from Modern Building Supply in Indianapolis. This information told me all that I needed to know. I was lied to not only in multiple emails, but also to my face. I need to find a new company to purchase the rest of my windows from. Had Mark placed my order when he told me on September 7th or even the 9th I would have been able to have my order installed before the Thanksgiving Holiday which was a major reason we went with Mark to begin with. His delay in ordering my products, even with my money in his pocket has caused me a great deal of distress during the holiday season. Today is December 5th,2016 and I still haven't heard from Mark about how the remainder of the installation went."

"It was a small job. They sealed the vents to the crawlspace, then, since there was already solid insulation panels on the walls, put a vapor/moisture barrier, in the form of a tarp, 4 feet wide and as long needed, completely around the crawlspace. It was then sealed to the walls with "nails" and adhesive. This seals the wood frame of the house from the 'Outside", the ground, which is the floor of the crawlspace. A 20 mil thick, quite heavy, "floor" was installed, also in the form of a tarp, It went up the walls about 3 feet and was taped to the 'tarp" on the walls, using a tape made for this application. The piers were wrapped with the same stuff and taped to seal the inside from the outside. the "floor" is also a vapor/moisture barrier, but, heavy enough to walk on if needed. This basically makes the crawlspace another room, rather than the outside. Our house is one year old and was already getting mold on the floor joists. Since the air in the crawlspace will now be heated in the winter and cooled in the summer, just like the rest of the house, the mold and cold (52 degrees) floors we experienced last winter will hopefully be eliminated. We shall see when dumb winter gets here."

"There were a few obstacles once the work began. They found some rot under the doors and there was an electrical problem. The guys did a great job and worked until things were right. I am very happy with the results."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Oxford, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
