"We worked with John Desborough (Desborough Construction) to finish our basement, including building a custom wood bar with plumbing and cabinetry, a matching wooded booth, and a half bathroom. This was a big project and it was important to us that the work was done right, so we interviewed three contractors. John stood apart from the competition. He spent a significant amount of time speaking with us to understand our goals, and offered suggestions and advice on how to accomplish our vision and improve our design. John’s proposal contained significant detail compared to others. We selected him because it was clear that John understood our goals and was capable of getting the work done right and within budget. We understood exactly what was included in the scope of work and knew there would be no surprises. John did a great job of communicating throughout the project and there were no unanticipated delays. He and the Desborough Construction team worked quickly and kept the project on track. John clearly takes a great deal of pride in his work. For example, although we didn’t specify that the bar top had to be one solid piece of wood, John knew that the bar was important to us and that a solid top would look best. To accommodate the lengthy bar top (which was constructed off-site), John cut a hole in the drywall of the basement stairway in order to get it safely down the stairs, installed the bar, and repaired the drywall during the same day. We couldn’t tell it had ever happened! Throughout the project, John went the extra mile to ensure that our expectations were exceeded and that we were extremely happy with the finished product. We feel lucky to have found Desborough Construction and John will be our first call for any future home improvement projects."

"Elis was great and easy to work with. He painted most of interior home, installed new cabinets and flooring. We have recommended him to several friends since and have also hired him again to come back and redo our master bath shower"

"I have had mixed experiences with this contractor. About a year ago I attempted to contact him to request information on projects I wanted to complete. I e-mailed him several times (his stated communication preference) and never heard anything back from him. Six months later, based on his Angie's List reviews, I e-mailed him again to ask about hourly rates. I received written information from him that allowed me to accurately calculate his hourly rate. So recently when I contracted for work with him, I made a HUGE mistake and accepted a lump sum price for the work with no further breakdown, wrongfully assuming that the hourly rate was the same as he had previously quoted in writing a few months earlier. Based on the actual hours he and his assistant spent at my house working, travel time and time he spent going to Home Depot for parts, the actual hourly rate he charged me was almost TWICE what he had previously quoted in writing. My mistake; lesson learned. In my opinion, I also made the mistake of telling him I needed the work done within a week. Some advice for others. NEVER tell this to a contractor. LOL Please note. All of the work he performed was handyman work that was not complicated and did not require highly technical skills. He was prompt arriving on the work day and did a good job. He occasionally appeared to be in a hurry and this concerned me because some of the work was plumbing. He left before the work was completed. His assistant completed the work. Clean-up was decent. This contractor has received multiple Angie's List awards. Since the time he completed the work for me I have hired other handymen at half the rate that he charges and they also did a great job, were prompt, and cleaned everything when they finished."

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Painesville, OH

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
