"The power went out in out home about 9:45 PM. Checked outside and neighbors and all seemed to have power. FLP said power was coming to our home. Called other electrical companies for electrician with no success. Called Gulf Coast Electric. Spoke with Eddie and he drove from Crestview to our home in Shalimar in less than an hour. We explained the problem and he knew where to start and found we had a finicky main switch. He replaced it and we had power restored in less than thirty minutes. My husband and I are very impressed with Eddie's promptness, professionalism and skill. Even though the repair took place after midnight, Eddie demonstrated zeal for the job like it was a regular work hour. We both are thankful and grateful for Eddie restoring power in our home."

Small jobs welcome

"Our home had a substantial amount of sub-par electrical work when we purchased it. During the quote session for 85 Ft of new outdoor wiring with receptacles, we asked if they could correct some of that shoddy work. Not only did they complete the "new" project in record time, but they also unraveled and corrected all the bad workmanship we found in the home. It is refreshing to see that pride in workmanship is still alive and well. We couldn't be happier."

Customers say: Quick response

"We called Telford Reynolds Electric to learn about whole house generators after Hurricane Michael destroyed most of the Florida Panhandle in October 2018. Even though Mr. Reynoldsâ  office and home were damaged after the hurricane he still provided service to his customers. One of his satisfied customers recommended him to us and we are glad they did. He explained everything to us and made sure we understood all our options and then gave us firm prices based on our choices. His men came when scheduled and acted professional during the entire process. Our 22 KW Generac Generator was installed in early February 2019 and has worked perfectly since. We will recommend Reynolds Electric to anyone asking our opinion. We found them to be honest, reliable and professional."

"Selectricity replaced six RV service panels and outlets in our RV park and did a great job. Everyone was very polite and professional and work was completed right on schedule. They have also done electrical work in my home. They are my go-to company for electrical work. I highly recommend them."

"Aaron Carruthers, owner, was very helpful and positive about the rewiring job, most electrical contractors don't want a job upgrading old aluminum wiring to copper in an old house, nor do they even have experience doing that type of work. One of the reasons I chose Oz Electrical is because they are located just outside of Pensacola, Fl. which has a ton of old and very old homes, so they are familiar with rewiring older homes. I live in Destin, Florida (an hour's drive away) and most electricians here consider an "older" home as one built in the '90s, mine is vintage 1970! Sanford, the electrician who performed the work was excellent, especially in working with my wife and I about upgrades to the original proposal, outlet and receptacle placement, new fixtures, and getting the power back on in a few rooms every evening as we were still living in the house as they did the work, which makes their job harder. In addition to rewiring the house with copper wire, adding new inside and outside panels, new meter box, hard-wired smoke detectors, added eve lights, he also installed a welder plug outside and also a generator transfer switch as well. For those inquiring, he came through the top plates in the walls with new wire (and a low-pitch roof!) and only about 9 holes 1 foot square in the walls to repair. I am VERY satisfied with all of the work and also the price.! We have lived here for over 17 years renting and I have upgraded several electrical outlets, fixtures, etc., but Oz Electrical did a fantastic job and I would recommend them to anyone needing electrical work done, from a small job to major rewire as I had done."

"I called other electricians, who quoted me $2,000 and insisted I change the meter box because of a dent in the top of the box from a hurricane. The box did not have to be replaced but needed protection on top. Simon Electric installed a piece of perfecly cut sheet metal on top to protect the meter box in future hurricanes at less than 1/4 the the cost."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Panama City, FL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
