"This was a full backyard makeover. Chris tore out an old, overgrown garden bed, including the bricks and a spiky little lemon tree. He fixed some old pavers that were caving in around our pool overflow drain, dug out old sod and weeds and cleared out miscellaneous yard debris. He took great care to make sure the yard was level and graded properly for drainage before laying weed barrier and gravel ahead of the artificial turf to finish the project. And now our yard is beautiful and usable again! We love it! Chris was very professional and communicated expectations. The work was done on time and is exactly what we wanted. "

"Shortridge is a small business, especially compared to others who do this work, such as Garden Centers and the larger Landscaping companies. I needed to add soil and compacting it into a flat surface on a steep incline in back of my screened lanai. I had planned to place a high end portable Putting Green, which has an adjustable slope feature on the surface.. Larry, the owner, came in with a lower price point. He was quite personable, yet professional in his description. I tend to try to get local, small businesses for my home projects, if I'm not fully confident in my own work. I'm sure this vendor does fine work, however, for me, the result was less than stellar. Although the soil was already beginning to collapse, the work area experienced about one inch of rain fall, and the sides of my surface collapsed, and the entire surface became very muddy and much of it washed away. When I stepped in some areas, my feet sank in a couple of inches or so into a muddy mess. After having someone else look at it, I understood the entire area should have been tightly compacted with a plate compactor. This would have held the soil solid until I was ready to add gravel, sand, or outer material. The way the soil was laid and just smoothed over, instead of compacted, the sides of the area would never have held up, unless it was shored up with cinder block, pavers or other sturdy material. I spent many hours attempting to push the soil back and shoring it up with large pavers. Had I used another vendor who I spoke with, they would have shored up the sides and compacted the soil, for just a little more. Now, I’m in the process of spending much more to get my desired result. Shortridge left me believing all I had to do was add sod to the edges of the soil before placing a heavy putting green structure. That would never be strong enough to keep the 10-inch-high soil on the low side from collapsing down, and washing away. This all was quite unfortunate since Mr. Shortridge was quite personable, and I gave him a nice tip."
