"We received an immediate response from Brandel who is professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He provided us with clear and defined expectations and immediate estimates for the project. We appreciated the timeliness as we were expecting heavy rain and snow that would have damaged our home. We look forward to working with him in the future for additional projects. Thanks Brandel for the work under very cold working conditions and going above and beyond."

"The project started with the addition being constructed and then the new kitchen was built into the space, this included a custom 13 ft live edge maple bar – which was done my Mike. After completion of the new kitchen, the old kitchen was demolished and the new construction started. Mike was extremely helpful during the entire project – he had lots of great ideas and worked with us on getting the little details that we wanted. He helped us find the maple slab, that would later become one of the most beautiful live edge bars that I have seen, and he pointed us in the right direction for other items and contractors to get the finishing touches we were looking for (Flooring & Cabinets). Mike was the General Contractor and had a mostly great set of subs that worked for him, he also coordinated and worked with the other contractors that we hired – Stove Installation, Cabinets, and Flooring. This was an overall $250K project and yes, we will hire Mike again – we are already talking to him about finishing out our basement and another Addition (New Master Bath with steam room). It was pleasure working with Mike and I look forward to starting the new projects soon. As I said, Mike and his crews are not the fastest working folks - this project took almost a year to complete - some of this was due to weather and some was due to coordination of Mike's Sub-Contractors."

"Our sales consultant Rob Culbertson with Pella in McMurray Pa is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Rob is very affable and personable. Both my husband and I enjoyed doing business with Rob. Also, the installers were wonderful. John K and his entire crew were professional, extremely courteous and very hard working. All of the installers were invested in our complete satisfaction with their work. We are now enjoying our windows and patio sliding glass door."

"They came in and had to install carbon fiber straps on 2 basement walls as well as a new waterproofing system. They replaced the sump pump and installed an additional sump pump with back-up battery.  They cleaned up and really did a wonderful job. We are very happy with the work they did for us.   We would highly recommend them!"

"We made plans to have the work done while we were on vacation just to avoid the normal disruption that goes with construction. We covered everything in the master bath with tarps to account for whatever trash landed there. We also had planned for a third party to wire in the attic fans when we returned home. <br /> So, the plan was that while we were out of town the crew would replace all of the shingles, any soft wood underneath, and take care of the other installations. It went flawlessly. The installation was exactly as we discussed. The job was perfect (and the roof still looks beautiful). The skylights were top of the line, and the vent fans were also of excellent quality. Even the trash in the bathroom (which we expected) was minimal; I just folded up the tarps and shook them out. I found a few nails in the yard, but really only a few; other than those, you would never have known they were here. <br /> I really appreciated the fact that there was zero downtime for us. I was a little concerned with not being able to oversee the work, but everything was exactly as we discussed. Now, seven years later, not a single leak from the roof, the skylights, or the fans. I'm still very pleased. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"It went very well. Things were scheduled, then completed in a professional & timely manner. When one of the things we agreed upon in our contract was not completed, we simply let them know & they rectified the issue without delay. The sales guy, Ray, was friendly, kind & professional. The office staff was very patient & helpful with the insurance claim process & kept in contact with us when things needed to be taken care of on our end. That was especially important because I was going through an illness at the time & I was not able to keep up with my normal routines. We were very pleased with the color of our new roof & it beautified our home tremendously. The overall process was a pleasurable experience & we would recommend Olde Glory to anyone needing a contractor."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Paw Paw, WV

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
