"The previous owner of our property used his French drain installation as a selling point, but shortly after we moved in we found water in the basement after a storm. It turned out that the "French drains" were a trench at the edges of the basement and a sump pump. The drains were not piped to the sump pump. We had Arid install real French drains with pipe to the sump pump well. Thus was in 2005 and we have not had any water in the basement since. Pat explained the job well and his team performed it quickly. They cleaned up well afterwards. The pump finally gave out last night (after almost 12 years). Arid is going to install new one on Friday."

"From the initial phone call to the completion of the job Quality 1st provided top notch professional service. A couple points which makes this easy to write. Communication is key whether in person or via telephone and Q1 was exceptional in this regard at every point. Telephone conversations with customer services was pleasant and cordial, never rushed or snotty. Paul our salesman was here for quite a while answering questions and assessing our needs in the basement. Of only was he on time for our appointment he was about 10 minutes early too. The cost of this project was a good chunk of change for us but after too many times of shop-vac’ing water we knew it was time to bite the bullet and move forward with making life a little easier and not have the issue of when will we get water in the basement again hanging over our heads. I was impressed that Quality 1st uses their own products and has their own R&D facilities. As for the installation, enough cannot be said for the crew that was here. I got the call at 9am they would be here in 20 minutes and at 9:20 they were backing in my driveway. I met the foreman Mario and his 2 helpers. We went into the basement and they looked around and asked if I had any questions. We had almost everything out of the basement and what was left they covered in plastic. By 9:50am they were running the jackhammers. We have a 1,500 sqft ranch and these guys worked all day, they didn’t stop and worked their tails off. I can’t remember exactly when the jackhammer stopped but by 2 pm the channel was dug out and they were beginning to lay out for the channel that carries the water to the sump. About 4pm Kyle showed up to assess the job and see if I had any questions or concerns. We spoke about the job and we went downstairs to see the progress. He stayed on site for about 45 minutes after making sure I was comfortable with how the job was going. By 5:15 or so the job was completely finished. Before they left Mario went over everything regarding the sump system. As far as cleanup, this is a dusty job. Concrete dust is ultra fine and they did a fantastic job of not only sweeping but they also dusted off areas which were not covered in plastic. They left no mess to speak of., I was very satisfied with their work and attention to detail. It’s easy to nitpick any job at anytime and there is nothing I would call them out on. Finally as for the functionality of the sump system I wish I had a comment on that at this time. We’ve lived in our house for 25 years and until around Thanksgiving of this year (2018) we’ve only had water about 4 times. Between Thanksgiving (2018) and New Years (2019) we got slammed 4 times and nothing since. With the symptoms of how our basement got water, I feel comfortable with the system Quality 1st installed and am confident they will stand behind their work and warranty. We’re also happy this is transferable to the next homeowner when we sell the house and it is an excellent selling point when the time comes."

"I had Barchella Landscaping do quite a bit of work at my home. They ran drainage pipe from all roof downspouts and three basement window wells to a new dry well. A crumbling front stoop was totally refurbished. The wrought iron railing was removed, taken away and cleaned down to bare metal, repainted and reinstalled. Total front landscaping was done. Removal of all existing plantings and lawn and installation of new shrubs and sod. A large pine tree was removed in the backyard and ten new arborvitae were planted along the back property line for privacy screening. And let me say that these were already mature trees that immediately added screening. The back lawn which is where the dry well was located was graded off, seeded and topped with straw. Extensive repair to a heaved sidewalk and crumbling entry apron into driveway. And Barchella did some work that wasn't really in the original contract. Amazing! Five stars is actually not enough for this top notch company. The owner, Frank Barchella, is a genuine true to his word type of guy. He promised a time line for the project and even though we had quite a bit of inclement weather he and his crew got it done on time. I highly recommend Barchella Landscaping and Masonry. I can't see how any other company could be better."

"I hired JRN also for other yard work. JRN did an excellent job by laying the Mulch on large garden bed area and the surrounding trees. Power washed pavements beautifully. Fixed pavements with a great finish. I would recommend JRN."

"During the first heavy rain in my new house, I found water would pouring off the roof like a waterfall. I had the gutters cleaned and then all of the underground pipes replaced that take the gutter / leader runoff away from the house. The next heavy rain revealed that I still had a problem. Darren of LIK gutters responded to my inquiry to Angies List. He had the largest number of positive reviews, so I invited him to quote. He was at the house the following day and the price quoted was very reasonable. I was out of town when Darren called with an available appointment. He replaced all of my gutters and sent me text updates and pictures during the process, only asking for payment after the job was done. When I returned home, I found all work had been done to the highest standard and in accordance with quote. With recent spate of heavy rains, this very satisfied customer so no overflow, no water in the basement and no more gutter problems. If you want the job done right, at a fair price and with no surprises, hire these guys."

"Prior to Carner Bros., we had 3 contractors come out to access the situation. All wanted to only install an internal french drain inside the house. We were concerned that water would still be coming into the house and put the project on hold. Carner Bros. came recommended to us in 2008. We hesitated to call them thinking their suggestion would be the same as the previous contractors. They came immediately out to meet with us and told us their goal is to get the water away from the house without mechanical assistance, if possible. They came several times to the house and town to review options and watch the pattern of rainflow duing heavy storms. Even after we signed the contract to start the work, they were still considering and reviewing all options, to make sure their solution would work for our situation. They continuely called with updates and even followed up after the job was completed to make sure there were no issues. One year has passed and we've had absolutely no water in our basement since the work was finished. During the job, I was shocked to return home one day to see they actually used a sod cutter to remove the grass for the installation of the drains. When the work was done (and there was a lot of digging across the front lawn), there was little evidence of any work that had just been done. Even the neighbors were commenting about how clean the job was. They were extremely professional, knowledgeable, prompt and very clean. I highly recommend them to anyone and would gladly use them again in the future."

"They were fine. We usually have them about once a year. My waste pipes get clogged and they clean them from the basement to the street. I call them, they are very polite on the phone, if they tell me that they are coming the next day at noon then they are here the next day at noon. Most of the time the people that come to do the work are very polite and usually they know what they are doing. They are effective. I don't have any problem with them. I pay them money and they go home, that's it. They were polite, punctual, on time, they did the job effectively, and the price is reasonable."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Pearl River, NY

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
