"Both jobs went well. Dennis reviewed the shower job with me. There was no drywall access in place, so after examining our home's floor plan, he showed me where to cut open and frame an access panel. I completed this prior to his arrival, and it worked well for his valve removal and installing a new Moen fixture. Dennis then replaced our outdated toilet with a Mansfield elongated toilet. Both jobs were completed in a professional, workmanship manner."

"The pro videoed my pipes for relining purposes. He was very thorough and answered all my questions. Royal plumbing seems to have very professional people working for them. He was straight forward and told me exactly what needed to be down. He gave me a rough estimate of the cost, but told me he would have a written quote for me by the end of the day."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"This started out as a VA HISA grant project. We found w thru Angi. Matt the owner arrived earlier than the original plan for the estimate after calling us. He took all the needed time to do the estimate then sat down with the family to talk about how we wanted the project to go. We explained the why, and how this was a VA grant he took time to ask great questions and ensure he understood how the grant payment would work. His skills as a plumber are only overshadowed by his concerns for the customer, and their needs. His contact with us has always been pleasant and professionally positive. We highly recommend this person and business to friends, family, and Veterans."

Have always had a maintenance or construction career most of my adult life. Ironically, my hobbies are also in the same field. Love building and fixing things, always gives that job well done satisfied feeling to see the end result, see something you made, or made new again. I pride myself on being a hard worker who takes pride in whatever I do, for whatever I do is a reflection of me.

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Piedmont, SD

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
