"The owners (Chris and Cal) did an excellent job on our remodeled project. They were personally involved with the project and worked directly with us during the entire planning and implementation of the work. They were true craftsmen. We wanted a contractor who could do the entire project and C&C fit the bill. They performed the drywall, flooring, windows, painting, electrical, and structural part of the job. We would highly recommend them ."

"Bob and his assistant came promptly as scheduled. Calling before to confirm. They were right on time considering the long distance they had to get here. They completed the job in the amount of time described and left us with a beautiful new surface on our tub. Afterwards, we had some difficulties with our drain, and gave Bob another call. He scheduled a time to come all the way back to our house to straighten out the request. He also gave us a little touch up paint. We had used some super-gentle, yellow, painting masking tape to make a nice edge on our culking, and we pulled a bit of paint off. The directions he leaves with you won't specifically say not to use the tape, but it should have been obvious not to do it. If you can't use suction cups, we probably should have realized not to use masking tape either. But the touch up paint made it perfect again. The only negative thing that could possible be said (and this has nothing to due with Bob or the company) is that the process won't make your tub perfectly smooth again if it is severely pitted. We had pits in the surface, and this covering smooths them out, but they are still going to be there as a bit of texture. It's been seven months and we are still happy with our new tub. Following his directions for cleaning and maintenance have kept the tub looking great. Thanks, Bob!"

"We had a fantastic experience with BKG Design (North Hills Location). Our kitchen designer, Noelle, came up with a great design given the small size of our kitchen that was right in line with our expectations. Throughout the entire process she was there to give design tips and help us create the modern look we were envisioning. Given the age of our previous kitchen we needed a fair amount of work done including demo, electrical, plumbing, and some floor work on top of the new cabinets and countertops. What I loved about Noelle and BKG was there was never any pressure or upselling along the way. All of our options were laid out to us from least expensive to most expensive and any part of the project that we wanted to do ourselves or hire an outside contractor for they were happy to accomodate. We ended up choosing BKG for the entire remodel and I am so happy that we did. Noelle did a fantastic job of project management as the entire remodel fell exactly to plan from both a time and cost perspective. Noelle would check in frequently to make sure we were aware of what was next to come, any upcoming decisions we had to make, and clarify items if there was any potential for confusion. In addition to project management, the install itself went very smoothly and that was thanks to the wonderful installers, Bill and Chris. Given that I work from home I was able to witness their work each day and I have nothing but praise for everything that they did. They showed up on time every single day and did not skip a beat from the moment they walked through the door. They were always quick to answer any questions I had and even go so far as to explain how things are done or provide advice as I like to learn a bit myself. Their knowledge of what they were doing was very apparent and impressive and it shows in the final product. If you want a kitchen remodel that is managed properly, stays true to cost estimates, and has a finished product that aligns with your expectations, look no further. The whole crew has years of experience in this arena and they run a fantastic shop. Thanks BKG Design! (I will be adding pictures shortly after we put on some finishing touches)"

"

My wife and I wanted to replace 4 hard to clean kitchen counter tops with smooth soap stone.  Saw the Origins shop from the road and on a whim decided to stop in and check their selection and prices.  The office manager, Cheryl, answered all our questions and brought up issues we hadn't yet thought of (like what type of new sink did we want (undermount, drop in, dual mount, farmhouse, etc.) and the pros/cons of each).  She knows the business and gladly answered our questions throughout the process.

We stopped in the showroom in late November and had the counters installed about two to three weeks later.  We were also given the opportunity to select a particular slab of soap stone from their supplier in Maryland but opted not to.  We had the option to purchase a new sink/faucet from Origins but decided to buy them at Lowe's.  No particular reason for this.  I'm sure the Origins-provided sinks/faucets would have been fine.  Origins' counter top / installation prices were very competitive and was thousands less than the one other local provider we called.

The measurement technician who came to our home, Grace, and project manager, Chris, were very professional.  Installation for the 4 tops took about 3 - 4 hours and the installers arrived on the early side of the delivery window.  Besides the tops they installed our undermount sink and created holes for the new faucet and soap dispenser.  Again, very professional service.

In my experience you can tell if a company is good to work with (or not) by their willingness to thoroughly and promptly answer a customer's questions.  Origins passed with flying colors and I would not hesitate to recommend them and use their services again.  Thank you!

"From start to finish we were very pleased with all the work we had done. The kitchen was cleaned everyday after the days work was done. The installers were terrific very nice, professional and took great care our home. They even let the dog out!! :) The owner was very knowledgeable as well as the estimator who came out first too. They explained everything and had a showroom so that we could actually see the product we wanted. Great Job and Well Done!"

FAQs for laminate countertops installation projects in Pittsburgh, PA

With the right care and a professional installation, laminate counters last 10 to 15 years. Wipe up spills quickly, clean with a nonabrasive product, and keep hot pots off the surface to prevent warping or scorch marks. Limiting prolonged moisture at seams also pays off. Your installer can walk you through simple maintenance habits that will help you squeeze every year out of your new counters.

Yes—if the existing laminate is solid and level, a pro can bond a fresh sheet right on top. They’ll rough up the old surface, apply the correct adhesive, and make precise cuts so the new layer sits tight. Skipping steps can lead to bubbles or weak seams, so this project is best left to an experienced installer who has the tools to deliver a clean, durable finish.

Absolutely, you can give tired laminate a facelift with paint, tile, or a concrete overlay instead of a full tear-out. The key is thorough prep: clean, degrease, and lightly sand so the new finish sticks.

Follow the product instructions for primer, sealers, and cure times, or hire a pro if you’d rather avoid the mess. When done correctly, these updates freshen the look and add a few more years of useful life.

Mix baking soda with just enough water to form a paste, then spread it over the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth—don’t scrub, as abrasives can dull the surface. Repeat if needed. For stubborn marks, ask your installer about cleaners made specifically for laminate.

Laminate isn’t built to battle the elements. Water, UV rays, and temperature swings quickly cause swelling, fading, and mold. Even a covered patio won’t protect the material for long. If you’re planning an outdoor kitchen or bar, skip laminate and choose a weather-tough option like stone, tile, or concrete so you don’t end up replacing your counters after the first season.

Traditional laminate isn’t the greenest choice. Most sheets rely on plastics like melamine and can emit trace VOCs over time. They also can’t be recycled at the end of their life. A few brands now use recycled pulp cores, but plastics still make up much of the product.

If sustainability tops your list, consider natural or recyclable materials such as solid wood, stone, or recycled glass instead.
