"PermaSeal is the Best. The consultant clearly explained the options for my project, the scheduling and cost. The installers were on time, explained questions I had about the basement crack sealing and Permafoam installation , completed the project in a timely manner and were friendly. This is the second project PermaSeal has completed for me. I would call them again, for sure."

"Good work in general; our basement no longer sees water for over 3 years now, which is the most important thing. But there were some real issues: The biggest issue is that USW did not adhere to local electrical codes, and did not arrange for a final inspection of the project. So we didn't find out that it wasn't to code until years later, and now it's a big hassle and minor cost to fix and get the permits. Ask your local gov yourself what you need to do for permits and inspections; don't rely on USW! USW said they would seal any foundation cracks found along the way; they didn't do this until I bugged the warranty dept about it (but they did do it eventually). USW sent someone out for the "annual checkup"... over 2 years after the install. It's a good thing they (eventually) did, because they discovered the backup battery wasn't charging. Now I know to check this stuff better myself. Prices also vary wildly and are kind of negotiable (I'd give more detail but I'm out of space)"

"The installation of the drain tiles, sump pump with the buried drain pipe to the street and window well installation went well. The pipe leak is the only issue that caused the quality score to go down. I had offered to get a plumber in to fix the issue, but they told me they could fix the problem. The first person they had try to do the pipe repair informed me that he wasn't a plumber.after he came back because the pipe was leaking two days later, but they did get an actual plumber and he was in and out in 30 minutes, whereas the first gentleman took over 1/2 a day to try to fix it. The punctuality issue was another issue, as we are a business, and they would say they would be there at 9 but not get there until 10 or 10:30, and then didn't understand why I wouldn't stay past five so they could complete their work. Their half hour more always turned into 1-2 hours later."

"We chose Twaddle Plumbing because of the cost and the customer service. The cost was amazing; he was really willing to work with us. We wanted to do as much as we could ourselves and so he came out and marked the floor where we could dig out and move the basement for ourselves. He gave us an estimate for everything but he broke down the estimate for us based on what he actually had to do. He was available very quickly as well. I could make a phone call and he was there the next day. He completed the service on time. He was nice and clean. I would recommend them to anybody and I already have my in-laws use them as well. We would definitely use them again in the future. <br />"

"The service was great! We called the emergency line and heard back almost immediately and Kevin and John were able to get to the house within the hour. We didn't know the pipe had burst right away so there was pretty extensive damage in the bathroom. They were able to clean up, assess the damage and sit down with us to determine a plan of action. Once everything was dry they got to work right away on replacing and repairing the bathroom. John communicated with us throughout the entire project to ensure there were no "surprises" which I appreciated, compared to other companies we have worked with in the past. They worked quickly to get my bathroom basement back in working order as we had guests coming to stay. To be honest it actually looks better now than it did before the pipe burst! John and Kevin were always friendly and responsive, very nice to work with. We will definitely work with New Way again!"

"Phil was great, professional and reliable; provided his cell phone just in case any questions came up.  Also wanted to make sure he understood the job so came back for second visit to ensure alignment.  Great customer service and quality of work, no need to look further.  No pressure sales pitch and understood what we wanted and injected opinion based on experience.  Job well done. <br /> <br /> UPDATE:  following the winter we turned on our sprinkler system and had a lead where the drainage pipe goes, after removing the rocks I noticed that the sprinkler pipe was bent *probably to fit the drainage under the bent.  The bent was so bad that it disconnected that sprinkler pipe from main connection underground and had a hole due to the bend.  I am disappointed that not only this was not communicated during install but was not fixed *it is right above the drainage pipe covered by gravel was installed and the soil that was put back on the side of the house is higher then the "normal" ground."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Plano, IL

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
