"Bill Hayes showed up on time, preformed the work doing a super professional job and stuck to the quote even though the job took a little longer. He left the site clean and in a better condition than when he arrived. Bill Hayes was very experienced and efficiently and expertly operated his equipment in our tight back yard. We recommend him and would hire him back again. He is very talented and good at what he does, we were very lucky we hired him because he knew how to stabilize the bank. We had been looking for someone that knew how to do this but we're not convinced that just a retaining wall would work. Now our house is protected, our bank is stabilized with large boulders, our bank can now become be a beautiful rock garden this summer with plantings in between the puzzled together rocks. Thank you Bill!"

"Luke and Jesse did a great job estimating and executing this work.  They surveyed the yard, estimated the amount of soil and seed required and presented me with an accurate and detailed quote.  My wife and I then walked through the quote with them and finalized the details.  Their pricing was excellent (I checked with two other landscapers), and the work was completed within 3 weeks of the estimate.  It was necessary to remove a 20 ft spruce tree and redo a footing on our existing deck to accommodate their work, and this was also done quickly and efficiently. <br /> All of the final work was accomplished while my wife and I were away on vacation.  It was done just as the quote had stated, and for the price agreed upon. <br /> I would not hesitate to use After Hours Landscaping at any time for my property."

"I found BFR through another person on gardenweb.  BFR had done her kitchen and she raved about them and provided pictures.  I originally was planning to re-use granite.  Long story - didn't work out.  Jesse sent me to two places to f ind the perfect granite and I am glad he did.  It is gorgeous.  So much nicer than the original plan and I am glad we took his recommendations.  Great job.  Great to work with.  Would highly recommend BFR to anyone.  We did all our work over the phone!  And it was perfect!!!!!! <br />"

"We are very pleased with the services provided by Lawn Care Creations. They were very punctual and always professional regarding their work. Randy is very concerned about the quality of services he provides, and made sure we were completely satisfied with the work. We were so impressed with our lawn care and lighting, that we have decided to use him for some additional services as well. I am so glad we found him, and I am sure anyone who uses him will be just as pleased."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Plattsburgh, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
