"We recently moved to Petaluma and wanted new flooring in our new home. We found Sunshine Flooring in San Rafael. Owner Dave Gilbert was happy to work with us In spite of the distance his crew needed to travel. We count ourselves lucky that he agreed to take on this job. He clearly laid out options (hardwood, engineered hardwood, vinyl plank, carpet), provided suggestions, but left the decisions up to us. (We chose engineered hardwood downstairs and vinyl plank upstairs.) He made an effort to get the materials as soon as possible, since we had a deadline to vacate our temporary quarters. His workers were on time, friendly, efficient, and good at their crafts. We love the end product and highly recommend this company. It had been a long and hard road for us to find our house, and Dave and crew were really a ray of sunshine."

My only complaint on the customer service side was that I was told I was to receive a discount upon signing, but never did. Quote was reasonable, but hate being lied too. The carpet material is very nice and the installers did a awesome job and cleaned up after nicely as well. I do recommend Empire for their timeliness and craftsmanship."

"When I called for an estimate I was surprised at how quickly Mr. Straus was able to come. I knew the carpeting I wanted and he was able to get it in a reasonable time. (The carpet had to be run specially by the manufacturer.) When my remodel slowed down, he was very flexible about re-scheduling the date of installation to meet my new needs. The installation was painless, with workers arriving exactly when they said they would, cleaning up after themselves, and making seams that were almost invisible, with a single exception. When I wrote Mr. Straus that my worry was not about the lack of invisibility of a single seam but the fear it might unravel with time. He guaranteed he would fix it if that happened. "Some of the experience was pleasant and the results are mixed. I am content with the way the floors look, but I also think the company cuts corners, reneges on its promises, and provides a job that is just adequate for the price. Tai did accommodate my wishes twice: I added an additional section of floor, which delayed their completion, and he acceded to my demand that the new section have a second coat of polyurethane added. But the contract and the conversations with him promised three coats of Bona product, which was not used. He later amended his statement, saying he meant one coat of stain and two coats of varnish. In the late added section, they did only one coat of polyurethane. The difference between that section and the other floors was palpable and visible. And when he redid the section, he failed to move the refrigerator, so the kitchen floor is not evenly finished. Further, he did not put back the stove they moved out, claiming they don't move furniture. Finally, and worst of all, they did NOTclean up; they left open doors and windows to rooms not being refinished, so that the dust and dirt spread everywhere.
