"They were professional and courteous. They showed up on time, went immediately to work and cleaned up after themselves. The work was done beautifully and quickly. They communicated the steps, what was needed and how it would be done. They went above and beyond any expectations. I would highly recommend and would hire them again for any project."

"I would highly recommend Nash Contracting, the replacement retaining wall was a huge undertaking and the finished project looks incredible. Reid removed the old fence and replaced, and removed an old garage/shed."

"The deal I purchased through Angie's list was I believe $1700(?) for a crew for a day. After looking around David realized it would be 2 days. David, Miguel and crew removed 5 or 6 large oaks, a diseased hickory, and many smaller scrubby trees. They ground stumps and cut all the wood in fireplace lengths for us to split later- as I requested. Because he didn't have to haul all the wood away or split it, I was able to have more trees taken down. The crew was fast, efficient and Miguel is amazing in the treetops. This was in 2015 and my barren shady yard is now sunny and grassy."

"Highly recommend Artistic Stone Design for turnkey transformation of kitchens and bathrooms when new countertops, sinks and faucets are desired. Their designers provide great education on stone selection and color/patterns to complement ones home. Everything promise was executed professionally and in a timely fashion with much less disruption to our household than we anticipated before hiring ASD. Five days to fabricate granite countertops from carefully measured templates and ONLY 1 day for demolition of the old rooms and installation of new countertops, sinks and faucets. And their plumber contractor was a real bonus - what a great guy who did a super job for us. We worked with Lea Brackens as our designer, and she made the project simple and pleasureable by handling all of our questions and concerns."

"I have never taken the time to write a review about a company but if I can save anyone from the hardship that I have experienced in my dealings, it is worth the time to write this review. A project leader came out and chatted leisurely about what they would do for a project and then when it came time to do the project, the person who spent the time discussing and designing it was never on site. People came out to do the work that were barely made privy to the original discussion and it showed. The person that spent ample time chatting was regularly too busy to make it out to be present for any portion of the actual work. Moreover, half the pants were subpar and needed replacing. The second time some went bad I just decided to not call them back. Meanwhile, I also spent $5000 + on a dry creek bed and drainage pipe install that made my run off situation MUCH WORSE. My parents lived in my house for 14 years prior to me and they just touched up gravel runoff in one to two areas with a rake after a rain. Now I need heavy equipment after each major rain. The water doesn't get to the pipe they dug up my drive to install at the start of the dry creek bed. It cuts a rut across my drive and goes in to the bed. When it does make it to the bed, the rock from the dry creek bed washes in the woods. When they put the dry creek bed in they regraded my drive without any discussion and pushed a large amount of rock to one side and it has been an awful mess of rock wash where they pushed it since. I had to replant periwinkle where they made these "improvements" of the install of the dry creek bed and have spent hundreds of dollars to fill in the areas that were disrupted during the installation. On top of it all, they charged me 300 to come put the rock back that had washed out of the dry creek bed in the woods and that smooth out the drive from the rock wall that they graded where the rock had washed and made massive culverts of rock wash. The second time I had a disaster with it occurring again their solution was to say that they did not think they were the right person for the job (?!?!) and that "we've experienced record breaking rains". They never even came out to see the mess that they helped create, at the tune of over a $5300 investment to "fix", and it's worse than ever before. I've truly NEVER had such a disappointing experience with a company."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Prince George, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
