"Mark said he will come back to complete the driveway after it gets hot outside.  It started raining on the day that they put down the product and they were unable to finish the compacting.  Right now, the driveway is very soft and we have to be careful how we drive and turn around on it.  Delivery trucks leave terrible ruts in it that we have to try to spread out and stamp down.  Even the deer are leaving their foot prints.  I called Mark Paving the first week of February and told him the problems I was having.  He said he would be back around June to finish up, to not worry about it.  I will update this review then. <br /> <br /> This is now August and I have not heard back from Mark.  We have had many 90+ degree days and the underneath part of the driveway has hardened.  But, the whole top layer is loose particles.  When wet, they track into the house and into the garage from our car tires.  I was hoping for maintenance free, but not so.  I don't know if these loose particles are because of the little compaction that was done, or if it's just the nature of recycled asphalt.  Mark had assured me he would check out the driveway after the weather warmed up, but he has not.  Very disappointing."

"I hired Alan to replace a badly deteriorated garage floor and to install a parking pad next to the garage off an alley. When he came to the site to give the estimate he also pointed out some failed mortar joints and significant stair-step cracking along the rear wall. In all, he and his crew repaired multiple sections of old mortar and replaced a rusty lintel; removed the old concrete garage floor; prepared the garage and exterior parking pad, removing dirt and a tree; formed up the new 18x18 garage floor and 20x20 parking pad, with a 4' apron; and poured the new concrete with appropriate finishes. I am absolutely thrilled with the finished product. Alan and his crew were a delight to work with. He clearly communicated changes in plans to work around weather and set expectations on scheduling and how long it would be before the concrete would be ready to be parked on. The site was left clean and neat at the end of each day, and the substantial, unavoidable disruption of the alley was repaired at the end of each day to make it presentable and drivable. No damage was done to my property or neighboring properties. I expected the initial estimate to be significantly higher, yet Alan committed to it, and the only small changes were due to additional work I requested while they were there. I could not be happier with how this project came together, and Alan was a delight to work with. I have several other smaller projects planned over the next few years and hope I'll be able to use him for those, as well!"

"Corey met me the same day to provide an estimate, and while I initially thought his estimate was high, after receiving other quotes I realized that it was reasonable for the work being done. He texted me to keep me informed along the way which I appreciated. What I like about Corey is that he’s an honest, straightforward guy. Tree work is notoriously expensive as home/landscape expenses go, and he gets it - he won’t try to sell you something you don’t need or pressure you into having more work done than is necessary. It’s hard to find service professionals like that and I would highly recommend him to anyone."

"I just had my driveway resurfaced by Capital Paving.  It was a 25+ year old surface that had been penetrated by roots making the surface very uneven. I had the trees removed lat year and the stump ground, but the uneven driveway was very unsightly. In addition, I wanted the driveway widened. Capital Paving was very prompt with the response and quote and were very reasonable with their pricing. They came within a week of the agreement and did a very professional job. A large portion of the original driveway was removed along with the roots and the portion removed was back filled with gravel along with the extension. The entire job was completed with in about 4 hours. I give this company 5 stars for the excellent and professional job they did in completing the project."

"Overall went very well. Very good work. Stay on top of them and everything will be great. <br /> Had a personally owned drill walk out of my house, but owner gladly subtracted from total contract price. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Prince George, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
