"Overall the installation went well except the "bowing" in the portion of the roof over the garage. We contacted Power on several occasions, but we haven't received a proper response yet. Below is the email we sent to Power. Power did acknowledge receiving the email, but nothing has happen so far. Email: You replaced our roof April 23, 2022 – project number 35-74502. We’re pleased with the replacement except for the portion over the garage…it’s bowing. Below, is our account of the events detailing how we have tried to resolve this issue. March 26, we met with sales team, Chris Pierson and Christy. We were assured that the bowing over the garage would be addressed and corrected since we were getting a brand-new roof, down to the decking/framing. The replacement should resolve this issue unless it’s structural. Brandon, project manager came out March 30 to check the readiness of the installation; to verify the frame could support the new roof. During the appointment, he mentioned that he would be on site the day of install. The roof was replaced on April 23rd. No on-site manager ever came on site, the lead guy of the work crew was not an effective communicator. We engage beyond the one time he asked for an extension cord. I called POWER and left a message with Chris Pierson that same day after the crew left to express my dissatisfaction with the roof over the garage. POWER came out to inspect/QA the project at completion (the roof) on April 25th, I believe his name was Zach. We pointed out the concaved roof on the garage. He stated that portion may be a structural issue and Power could not address that. I asked him how much would it cost to replace it? He thought about it for a minute or so, then stated it could be replaced, but it would be “redo” and he quoted us a price of approx. $8900. He proceeded to say that he could knock it down to about $7800 if we added an additional project to replace the house trim. This is when he mentioned that they have company meetings on Tuesdays in the morning and he was sure this project would be discussed. He acknowledged that POWER’s communication could have been better (better details in the project notes). We waited few days thinking that someone from POWER would reach out and when that didn’t happen, we called Chris Pierson (the POWER sales guy) on April 28th. During this call, Chris scheduled another QA/follow up appointment for May 9th at 10:00am; he said Dylan, a service manager would come out. On May 9th no one showed up. About 10:20am, we called POWER only to find out that we did not have an appointment for that day. We were not the appointment list. We then rescheduled for 10am the next day, not even 10 minutes later POWER called back to inform us that unfortunately they were not going to be able to make it because of some staff meeting. I recall asking “is the meeting all day”. That’s when we were told that the next available date was June 16th; feeling like we had no choice we accepted the June 16th date at 6pm to allow both of us to be present for the meeting. Upset and feeling like we were about to get the runaround, we placed a call to GreenSky (financing team) to inform them of the matter since loan was activated and payments would begin soon. After sharing the situation with the GreenSky rep, she took notes, and we submitted a complaint because again we felt like we were about to get the run around. On June 12th, we had a call with the assigned GreenSky caseworker. He advised that we should continue to try and resolve the matter with POWER. On June 16th around 1:50pm, I received an apologetic call from Terry, apologizing for being late, that his prior appointment ran over, he was out in the sticks and phone reception was not all that great. I mentioned that our appointment wasn’t until 6pm as so my husband could be home. I was told that I must be mistaken because they don’t make appointments after 6pm, his latest appointment would be around 4:00pm. He said that my husband really didn’t need to present, it would be a quick look and since he was in the area. He asked for a summary of the situation; I gave him the run down. He asked if I could send him a few pictures, which I texted him a few of the garage roof. He said he got the jest of it. He apologized and asked what could they do… we said that we would be open to a knocking something off the price or repairing the area. He said let me call my office. He called us back to say that someone from senior management would be calling us to try and resolve this that evening of June 16th, but still haven’t heard from him or POWER."

"I’m going to begin this review by saying, I have never hired someone to do a job on my house where I have been completely satisfied with the labor and the finished product. Until now. I just hired a company to remove my existing shingle roof and replace it. Not only is the finished product of excellent quality, but the technicians were extremely diligent in making sure everything was done with precision. The entire job even down to the clean up afterwards is outstanding…. I highly recommend Coxs Roofing and I will be using them whenever I need roofing work done. Oh! And they also had the best price quote out of three estimates I received. 1121 Roland Heights Ave. 21211"

"I couldn't have been more pleased with Charm City Roofing. Home repairs, especially roof repairs were something I dreaded to think about. My experience with Charm City Roofing changed all of that. Starting with my point of contact Mac who did a WONDERFUL job explaining the process and providing a comprehensive step by step of how the installation of my replacement roof would be completed. My home currently has solar panels which needed to be removed before the installation of the new roof could begin, due to the slow response from the solar company this took over 4 months! Dispite this headache, while waiting for the removal the Charm City Roofing Team checked in with me periodically, maintained my tentative install date and continually assured me they would get the job done. The roof was completed as promised and I couldn't be more happy, the installers showed up on time! roof was completed in one business day! (Again as promised) Yard was cleaned up Completely of every material."

"I contacted with Walter's Home Improvement to install an under-deck rain removal system.  My deck has additional supporting structures which complicated the job.  Several contractors had recommended against installing a rain removal or diverter system due to my unique deck design.   Walter looked over the work and immediately recognized the difficulty involved.  After some careful study, he suggested a solution which made sense, and I agreed with his proposal.  He engineered the system and supervised its construction.  After testing, he made additional modifications that improved the overall performance of the system.  The finished product is attractive, brighten up the area under the deck and is fully functional.  Although not a perfect solution, the area
under the deck is dry and protected.  I am very pleased with the work and grateful that Walter had the confidence to take on this job.  I highly recommend him and his company, and I personally plan to use them again."

"Work was done in two phases.
First the Roof:
Work started on Dec. 9th and was competed on Dec. 11th
Materials were delivered just as scheduled on Dec. 7th and stacked on the roof.  Before putting down the new shingles the old roof had to be removed.  This consisted of scrapping off two layers of shingles and tar paper to get down to bare wood.  Bad sections of wood were replaced.  I was impressed with the carpentry skills of the gentleman who replaced the plywood. The new roof consisted of installing ice & water shield, synthetic underlayment, new drip edge starter strip on roof perimeter, new pipe boots, flashing and putting in a ridge vent besides new shingles.  Also included was construction of  a small cricket adjacent to the chimney to help keep water from leaking in around the chimney and closing off one gable vent.  Originally included in the contact was reinstallation of  a new antenna and mount (supplied by me), but I started having concerns about the wiring and grounding being connected according to standards since nobody on the crew seemed to have had experience putting up antennas.  Mr. Garner did come and look at the system and do some research in order to install it, but after finding an antenna installation person and getting a separate estimate he agreed to adjust the price to eliminate the charge for the antenna installation.  I do feel they could have done a better job at protecting my landscaping.  They did put up tarps, but they were laid directly on the plants and pieces of material were dropped onto the plants.  Areas where they had removed shingles but didn't get the underlayment down were covered with tarp until the work could be finished.
Second the Siding:
Materials were delivered on Dec. 19th, but due to all the rain in December work started on Jan. 4th and was completed on Jan. 6th.  Mr. Garner did call the nights before whenever work would need to be rescheduled because of the weather.
Work consisted of removing the old aluminum siding, removing gutters, downspouts and shutters, installing house wrap, flashing tape around all windows, installing new insulated siding with all related details and accessories, new gutters and downspouts and gutter guard and new soffits.  The existing shutters previously removed were replaced. A different crew was used for the siding work than from the crew that did the roof work. I think this crew could also have done a better job of protecting the landscaping around the house.  They did not put any tarps up and some of their equipment went right into my bushes.  Other than the lack of care with my plants I did feel that the crew had good skills.  I was impressed when they used one continuous piece of fascia above my bow window rather than five separate pieces as the previous contractor had done.  Also required was temporarily disconnecting the electric and phone lines from the house in order to get the siding materials behind them.  No power was lost while this took place.  They readily redid the finish work around one of the roof gables so that the construction would match (each gable had been done by a different crew member).  After the job was completed, I noticed that some of the gutter guard wasn't laying flat in one of the gutters.  Mr. Garner sent someone over within the week to fix the issue.
They did a pretty good job of cleaning up the debris, but I am still finding small pieces of asphalt and siding material in the mulch around the house.
A supervisor was pretty much on site at all times.  Only once did an issue come up after the supervisor had left. The crew had brought sheets of particle board to replace the plywood that was removed from the roof.  I showed them that the contract called for plywood to be used, not the particle board brought.  A quick phone call to the main office fixed the situation.  The supervisor was on site for all of my other concerns and readily answered all my questions.  He gave me a good lesson in roofing and siding construction.
During the contract negotiations all of my questions were answered in a timely manner via e-mail and phone.  Answers were clear and revised contracts were sent quickly.  I found the contract to be very detailed and each phase of work broken out so that I could select exactly which work I wanted done.  Compared to the other estimates received Garner Roofing had the best itemized contract.
Overall I am happy with the work done. (The B in quality is due to the lack of care with the landscaping.)

"The crew who replaced my roof did a great job! They inspected all of the plywood and everything was still in great shape other than one piece of wood needing to be replaced. I am happy with the end result, and have already received so many compliments on the new roof! I will definitely recommend Home Genius to all family and friends!"

"

Back in the late winter I had snow blowing down from my skylight into the top floor of the house.   WBR (Matt Cisna) came out while I was on a work trip and inspected and had his workers caulk things up.      In reality I could have limped along with my roof as it was for a little longer however I asked matt to give me a full estimate for replacement of the roof collars and skylight.    I felt the price was more than reasonable and the company reviews seemed consistent and I felt that I had found a good company.

The team showed up this last Saturday to install the roof and did a very thorough job.   Everyone who showed up to put my roof on was professional and they did a complete and thorough cleanup at the end.      I am very pleased with the results.   I always get nervous when making such a significant repair and my mind was put at ease from the beginning.

If you are looking for a roofer in Maryland,   I highly recommend Walter Brown Roofing.

"Their consultant was on time and very knowledgeable. I ultimately decided to move forward with a new Roof and replacement windows. My Roof was done roughly 2 weeks later and my windows were just completed. I am very pleased and look forward to the energy savings this winter. The architectural shingles really look good and have gotten me a lot of compliments from my neighbors."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Pylesville, MD

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
