"We had two double pane casement widows that needed repair - in one one of the panes was broken, and in the other there was a bad seal that allowed it to fill with condensation and mold. It took a few days from the time we called before someone could come to the house, measure the windows and prepare an estimate. They charge $60 to do this, but, credit it toward the final price if you accept their estimate and authorize the work. It was necessary to order replacements from the factory and so it was about two weeks after the estimate before the repair could be completed. The replacement took about two hours. The work was efficiently done, it looks as good as new. Both the man who came out to do the initial estimate and the man who replaced the glass were personable and efficient. For both appointments we were given a one-hour time period in which we were told to expect them. The man who came to do the estimate was about a half an hour late, but the man who came to do the repair arrived at the expected time. While i got no other estimates with which to to compare it, the price charged seemed reasonable to me, I was very pleased with the service and the quality of the work. I would contact them gain should the need arise."

"I needed the 8' x 5' double pane picture window replaced after the original unit cracked and compromised the seal leading to irreversible misting. The unit had probably been installed in the 60's. I had no desire to replace the entire window (which also included 2 fold out lower windows) with a modern window. Les's Glass was quite happy to replace just the sealed unit and I received no up sell pressure. Throughout the process, I was very happy with the interaction with Les's Glass including the initial contact, measurement appointment and, finally, installation. The work was completed professionally and in the specified time-frame. All representatives of the company were easy to deal with. I highly recommend this company."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Racine, WI

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
