"Lakes Area staff installed two garage door openers at my home - they did a great job with the install and helping to make sure we understood all the features on the new openers. Their recommendation regarding opener type was spot on - the openers are whisper silent and the work was done in a couple of hours. highly recommend this company."

"Very satisfied with the service and price.  Made appointment via Angie's List and they came out within 5 days to install the new garage door opener.  Very professional and informative.  Explained the process of installation and approximate amount of time to do.  Also informed me of some upgrades I could do at a later date with the rollers.  The new opener works excellent.  He also informed me of how to handle any potential problems with the sensors when they are in contact with sunlight.  He was very helpful! Very pleased with their services!

"John promptly returned my call and we set up an appointment for the next morning to have him take a look at my garage door opener which was not working correctly.  John was able to figure out immediately what was wrong and got the opener working in about 5 minutes.  Since it was such an easy fix he helped me reprogram my opener and also serviced the garage door.  He noticed that when the door was manually lifted it was quite heavy.  He asked me if I had the spring replaced recently and I said yes...about a couple of years ago.  He adjusted the spring and then oiled all the hinges.  Great job.  Highly recommend John for the great work.

FAQs for garage door opener repair or adjustment projects in Richmond, IL

Garage door costs range somewhat broadly, depending on the type you choose. However, you’ll also need to factor in labor costs, which vary from state to state and between pros.

A chain driven operator costs between $150 - $250. For a belt driven operator it is usually $160 - $450. A screw-driven operator is between $250-$500.

To keep garage door opener repair costs down, you should check that the whole apparatus is working normally on a regular basis. This means making sure that the tracks of your door are greased and fully operational, and that the door itself is in good condition.

Installing a new garage door opener runs from $250 to $500 at least. If your repair costs are close in cost to that range or if your garage door is 10 to 15 years old, you should probably replace it instead of repair.

However, it’s a better idea to fix your garage door opener if it’s less than eight years old or if repair costs are less than replacing.

Garage door openers usually last between 10 and 15 years. However, several factors contribute to how long your garage door opener can last. If you schedule regular inspections and practice proper care, you can maximize your garage door opener’s lifespan, saving money in the long run. As a general rule, practice the same care for your garage door opener as you would the door itself.

These tell-tale signs indicate your garage door is going bad, including:

  • Not closing or opening at all

  • The door reversing when you try to open and/or close it

  • Inconsistent opening and closing; more noise than usual (grinding, scraping, or banging)

  • Sticking or stalling when you try to open or close it

If you experience one or more of these signs, it’s time to call a professional garage door repair service.
