"I had been updating a rental property that had multiple stains on the stairs and while remodeling decided to leave my shoes on to walk in and out and by the end of the project the stairs were filthy. I happen to work for a company that manufactures commercial and industrial cleaning equipment - anything from vacuums to street sweeper sized machines. I used one of our cleaners for the rest of the house and did see great results but a main hallway and the stairs were still not great. Exceptional Carpet Care came in and cleaned the stairs and hallway and they seriously looked brand new. I couldn't believe how great they looked. Additionally, they were available almost immediately and the price was very reasonable. I would absolutely recommend them for anybody looking to clean their carpets."

"Excellent service and customer contact throughout process.  In-store service answered all questions, installation happened exactly when scheduled, and we received numerous calls from the store during the process to guarantee that we were happy with what was happening.  Installers were conscientious and careful with excellent clean-up at the conclusion of the project. There was a slight defect in the product and they backed up their 'satisfaction guarantee' immediately.  Highly recommend them for any size project. <br />"

"The team was very professional, gave us samples in a helpful and friendly manner to help us make our decisions, were there to answer questions, bring up possible technical issues. For example, we ended up switching the countertop/floor installations to floor first, countertop last to solve a possible dishwasher height clearance problem. We were still free to purchase elsewhere, DeGeus was very flexible and willing to do a big, medium or small job, as we decided. We ended up with medium-big. The job price felt high at first, but we priced around and felt we were getting a fair deal for a particularly solid and experienced business. The actual workers were very skilled, especially in dealing with a lower standard original home floorboards which were not level (we suspected as much over the years). The job called for skill and they delivered! We are delighted, pleased and proud to recommend DeGeus to others. <br />"

"Our purple carpet had about 100 urine stains from previous dogs and our own. The specialist, Robert, matched to color and treated every spot. If we didn't know where they were, we'd never know they spots had been there. Perfect job!"

"Very pleased with the flooring and the installation. We chose a layout pattern that required more than the usual skill and effort, and are very pleased with the results. <br /> We were less pleased with the responsiveness and communication skills of the sales rep, who was not very pro-active in contacting us during the planning, and didn't actually consult us on setting an install date (3 days work) before scheduling it. Also, the receptionist directed one of my calls to voicemail without informing me that the sales rep was on vacation for a week, or giving me the chance to talk to someone who was actually available. <br />"

"Great, he was late but apologized and said he never is late - I think it was a misunderstanding and believe him. <br /> He worked hard to get dents and spots out and the carpet looks a lot brighter and nicer. He was a very nice guy and explained things as he went. <br /> This is the 1st time I've hired a carpet cleaner and if I have to again I will likely hire him. I used the Angie's List coupon. <br />"

"Happy they were able to fit me into their schedule relatively quickly. They explained everything, were on time, cleaned-up afterward. I was not able to do comparison pricing. I was not sure how long my malfunctioning pump would continue to work. I selected them based on good reviews. I may have been able to save some money with someone else, but I do not feel like the price was too high. You get what you pay for. I’m very happy with what they did."

"Purchased Carpet on 8/26 with an install of 8/31 recived an automated call at 7:30am the morning of the install and said we would done in the afternoon that the installer had a previous job in the morning. We didn't hear anything until 2pm on the 31st when the installer called and said he will be there between 3:30 and 4:30PM. He arrived just after 4:30pm and it took him till 7:30pm to complete the job and he rushed through it, he was exhausted. This is the 2nd time we have used Empire and the previous time we went through the same exact experience. I called the company to discuss the issue with the general manager and he basically said "Not everyone can be first and if the installer arrived before 6pm that still is satisfactory to him... Umm? The work looks nice I stayed on top of job to ensure it was done correctly vs. the last time we used them and it was not done correctly."

"<ol> <li>1. From the beginning we could not get a straight-up quote from them.  After multiple iterations, their quotes were illogical and I could not trust what was included.  They would not even provide us with a quote for the laminate both installed and uninstalled.</li> <li>2. They came out to take all the measurements themselves.  When we decided to install the laminate ourselves, based on their measurements, we had 7+ boxes left over (they admitted they typically account for having 2 boxes left over) yet they would not let us return them.</li> <li>3. Carpeting was installed nicely.</li> <li>4. Duraceramic tile was laid down in an obvious "pattern" with all the dark sides of the tiles lining up.  I've never seen tile pieces lined up so all one color is on the same side.</li> <li>5. One of the tiles was installed with a very noticeable flaw.  They said they ran out of tile so had to lay it down.  I did get them to order more and come back to replace it.</li> </ol> <br />"

"In early August, 2014, we shopped at several places for replacement carpeting for our living room, bedroom, hall, den and stairs (all the same carpet) and wanted the job done by Labor Day Weekend.  We chose KB Carpet to do the job because we liked and trusted Kevin, the owner, and felt that the price for the quality of the carpet and pad we chose was very fair.  We had had problems with a seam showing on our old carpet and Kevin promised us that he would install the carpet and that because the carpet we chose came in a 15 ft width there would only need to be two seams and that they would not show.  Also, the installation would be done in our <br /> time frame.  We gave them half of the purchase price on August 9th, 2014. <br /> However, they got back to us the following week and said the manufacturer couldn?t provide the carpet in the time frame promised.  <br /> We decided to wait and have it done by KB anyway. <br /> The date of Monday, September 15th, was set for installation and Kevin said the whole job would be done in one day.  When we <br /> called just before the weekend to check, Kevin said it would be Tuesday before he could get here. <br /> Tuesday came and it wasn?t until just before noon that two workers (not Kevin) showed up saying that they would be doing the job.  They said that KB had waited until the morning of the installation to pick up the carpet in the Twin Cities (about 70 miles away). On the way back, their truck broke down, and it was middle afternoon when the carpet finally got here. <br /> It took until the afternoon of the next day to finish the job.  We really liked the carpet but there were 4 seams showing (a couple of the seams appeared to be patches where they had measured incorrectly) and where the carpet met other flooring the edges were stapled <br /> and the staples showed badly.  The installers said that the carpet needed to relax and that those problems would disappear. <br /> It soon became evident that they were not disappearing.  We called the installers as we had been instructed, and they came over <br /> to work on them with no real improvement.  We called Kevin to come over to look at the problem and the installers came back again.  This time they pulled out the staples from the edges and installed an invisible metal edge.  They also worked on the seams again with <br /> little improvement.  In talking to Kevin, he said he could fix the seams without pulling up the edges.  Days later he said he couldn?t do so and would need to pull up the carpeting edges.  He also said he couldn?t come until after Thanksgiving.  Then we made the decision to wait until after the holidays because furniture would again have to be moved. <br /> Because of illness, vacations, and other reasons ? some our doing and some Kevin?s ? he and the original installers finally came back in Feb. 2015 and fixed the seams as best they could.  Of the 4 seams that were badly showing, 3 were fixed pretty well.  The one remaining seam that is still is not to our satisfaction is in our bedroom hall area.  They told us to wait a year for the carpet to soften and they could come back and fix it again. <br /> Would we buy from KB again? Yes, but only if Kevin did the installing.  Also, we would not pay KB in full until we were completely satisfied. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Rochester, MN

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
