"????? If I could give zero stars, I would Hiring this contractor was a nightmare from start to finish. The bathroom they delivered is so poorly done that I feel like I need to redo it entirely. They rely on subpar subcontractors with no professionalism or craftsmanship. ? Overpromise and underdeliver: I had to stay on top of every detail myself, doing the job the contractor was hired to manage. ? Unreliable: Never kept appointments or confirmed schedules. The only time they showed up on time was to collect payment. ? Unsafe practices: At one point, a subcontractor was cutting concrete inside the bathroom with a gas?powered tool, filling my entire home with smoke. I had to intervene to stop it and argue just to get basic protections like tarps in place. ? Poor management: Subcontractors openly complained about not being paid, and I even had to send one home myself because of unacceptable behavior. ? End result: Substandard work that does not reflect the money spent. Save yourself "

"Phil and Doug were wonderful to work with- very responsive, professional, and answered all of my questions. We replaced a regular window in our home with a 7 foot bay window, which is beautiful and we absolutely love it. My one complaint was that a hole in the wall underneath the window was left following the installation, as well as some cracks, which were patched with a foamy substance but not a proper smooth plaster repair job that could be painted. We had to take care of that repair ourselves. Otherwise, my experience was very positive."

"Reliable and trustworthy from the get-go! He actually promptly returns phone calls! Throughout the project, Kevin proved himself to be hard working and meticulous from start to finish! We have not one critical thing to say! He was punctual, efficient, so easy to work with and, did I already say hard-working??? His honesty and integrity set him apart from so many other contractors, in fact, he just called to say we had overpaid him by $100.00! Wow! My husband and I were very impressed by not only his work, but by his trust-worthy character and the pride he takes in his work. His assistant, Josh, was also a hard worker and showed such attention to detail - he was even careful not to destroy plants in my garden just below the window he was repairing! It was money well spent! We have already been singing Percival Remodeling's praises and referring him to others. We will hire him for all our future construction projects! Thank you so much, Kevin and Josh! We appreciate the excellent job!"

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Rochester, NH

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
