"Granite & Marble Direct's customer service team of Angie and Daniela began working with me on a custom bathroom vanity project.  They were extremely helpful in listening to my thoughts and ideas of what I wanted, and began working closely with me to achieve exactly the outcome and look we were hoping for.  The level of communication via both phone and e-mail kept was incredible, and very helpful.  They always got right back to me and answered questions quickly. <br /> They fantastic show room with many stone options to choose from and a bunch of slabs in their yard out back.  Angie called me later that week and said she had done some digging and actually found a quartz remnant that would work for my project!  Alex (the owner) was out shortly afterwards to do a great detailed measurement of my vanity to ensure that we had everything measured exactly right to get a great fit.   <br /> The level of attention to detail, customer service and quality of work I found at Granite & Marble Direct was beyond my expectations, and a rarity in this day and age in the level of professionalism typically given to the customer.  I vetted many other Granite places before deciding on Granite & Marble Direct, including major retailers like Lowes, Home Depot, Twin City Granite, and a few others that didn't come close to these guys.  And I wouldn't go or recommend anywhere else in the future except here. <br /> As all projects go - nothing is perfect, and we had a hiccup in the size of our stone remnant that came up just a few inches to short after Alex had come out and done the measurements.  This company not only stood behind their product and estimate, but ordered a full slab of the stone piece at their expense to be able to still get me the counter top that I wanted.  They also provided an upgraded edge design on my vanity counter, and two sinks were included in the price of the estimate. <br /> The final install, was also a great experience as a fantastic install team arrived on time and was quick to get the counter top installed and looking great.  Even here we had a slight issue, with some of the edges needed to be sanded down, and they did what needed to be done exceptionally well, without complaining, and got the job done right. <br /> I wanted to go into extensive detail on this job, because I know custom projects are not easy, but their team of individuals and ownership really stepped up and made this a great experience for me and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.  I would not go any place else if you are looking for counter top installation.  These guys have an incredible selection of styles and designs and can order any type of product if they don't have it in stock.  Incredible customer service and a great attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship make this one of the best run companies I have worked with! <br />"

"We love our new windows, and we would highly recommend the company! Everything from the initial estimate/sales set-up through final installation has been so professional and well-done. We initially reached out a few years ago to get estimates on windows for the entire house (along with a few other companies), and with Craftsmen, we never felt pressured or like anyone wasted our time with an annoying sales pitch. We decided to wait, and we reached back out at the end of 2020 to get updated estimates. They still had all of our information and were very helpful and prompt at getting updated totals. We had some concerns with ordering (as it was in the early days of the pandemic) depending on regional closures or delays, and they were reassuring and flexible with our plan. During the installation process, everyone was so professional. Often with outside contractors, people default communicating with my husband, yet I'm the one coordinating, so it can often be frustrating, but that was absolutely not the case with Craftsmen. Everyone was very kind and respectful no matter who they were talking with. Besides just getting all of our windows replaced, we also had a large wall cut out and a custom window added, which we were a bit nervous how that would go with our stucco, and it turned out beautifully, and it was such a nice relief to know that no matter what - the crew would handle it. It was quite the undertaking and a very large investment from us, but it was so worth it for how beautiful everything looks inside and out and how seamless the process went."

"Overall the project went very well. I collected quotes in late 2014 and selected Northrup in December 2014. The demo began in January 2015 with roof removal in February and new walls/insulation going in soon thereafter. The overall project took about 7.5 months from start to finish. I was expecting about 4-5 months, but there were the inevitable delays throughout the process. I began with one large open room and in the end I now have a large open master bedroom with a small kitchenette, a full bathroom, a walk-in closet and a deck off the back. My general contractor and main point of contact was Mark White, the owner of Northrup. He was very responsive and, especially at the beginning of the project, was great at giving routine updates on the project. There were some points throughout the project where I would have liked him to give me information a bit more quickly (e.g. the wrong sized windows were ordered, so my windows did not go in as expected. I had to call and ask why the windows were not in) or where I felt rushed to make decisions on counter tops and other things that could not ultimately be installed anyway for several weeks, which I felt drew out the project a bit. The end product is fantastic! They have been pretty good about coming post-project completion to fix a couple of issues (one urgent plumbing issue which was addressed that day, one less critical soffit leaking issue which required some minor pestering by me). I moved into the space in August 2015 and now one year later, things seem to be holding strong. I will need to re-paint and re-stain the deck sooner than I anticipated with the cedar siding and deck not holding the original paint as well as I had hoped. Other than those minor updates, I could not be happier!"

"Chris came out initially to take a look at the back yard and to discuss the project. I had asked him to put together a design based on some initial ideas and requirements of our own. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about installing patios. We discussed some issues with needing to improve water run off from the back of the house. We were in contact numerous times before start day to refine the design and choose pavers and lighting. Chris was always very responsive to my emails and calls and always pleasant to talk with. On start day, he showed up with his crew and a slew of machinery to excavate and prepare the base for the patio. He worked with me to mark off the perimeter and shape of the patio. When the size of the patio ended up bigger than what I had initially sent as measurements (my error), he didn’t complain- he just said he would order the additional pavers and we’d adjust the final invoice. I had asked him to try and not rip up the surrounding lawn too much and so they laid plywood and made sure that the skidsteers and other trucks stayed on that one small area. This was a real sign of their professionalism to me. I was amazed how the patio took shape in just 1 week. The crew worked through blistering heat and never complained. At the end of week 1, the patio was installed minus the final 4 cap lights since we had to wait for the lights to arrive. I make a partial payment to Chris for the work completed and then 1 week later, he came out and finished the lighting and worked through the electrical hook-ups to the house with our electrician on that day. We used pavers from a vendor who Chris uses and I was pleased with the look of what we chose. The pavers were installed well and Chris used polymeric sand to hold them in place. The job site was cleaned up every night and they moved excavated soil and aggregate base and we never had a “mess” at the house. Part of the project involved them ripping out a concrete landing outside of our adjacent garage access door and I never saw the broken concrete because they just hauled it away. Overall the patio looks incredible and I wouldn’t have asked for a better experience with an installer than what we got with Chris and his crew. I felt that the pricing of the project was very fair and that Chris and his guys were dedicated to finishing the patio as quickly as possible."

"Everything about my experience with Outdoor Solutions was positive. Jim was very easy to work with, flexible, and timely in his response to my questions. I was very appreciative that his company was willing to take on a smaller deck repair job. I had contacted at least 6 other companies over the last year, looking for someone willing to come out and fix two deck posts that were heaving out of the ground and pushing up one corner of my deck. Most companies refused to even call me back, and the others were not willing to look at my problem unless I wanted a complete tear-down and rebuilding of my deck. It seems that most companies don't want anything to do with customers who won't or can't spend $30,000 or more on a project, so I was thrilled that Jim was willing to have someone from one of his crews come work on my deck. He sent out Joshua to do the work less than a week after contacting him. I couldn't believe the quick response and the flexibility Outdoor Solutions provided in order to fit my repair project in around other larger projects. Joshua's work was exceptional in all ways. In my opinion, he did the work of a 2-man crew and worked until everything was perfect. He took pride in his work and was very detail-oriented. In addition, he was very friendly, courteous, professional, and hard-working. I am now able to enjoy my deck for the rest of the summer. Thanks to both Jim and Joshua, I had a very positive experience, and would definitely recommend Outdoor Solutions Inc., whether it is for a small deck repair or the installation of a brand new deck."

"There was a misunderstanding and the worker came and started pulling weeds, and I thought they were going to bring a weed cutter. But overall, they get straight A's across the board from me because they didn't even charge me for the misunderstanding and I thought that was pretty nice of them."

"This is a wonderful company! What we we essentially needed was to have a chainlink fence removed and to have the area reclaimed. I wasn't sure who to call for that kind of a project. We checked Angie's List for companies that dealt with fencing and were able to find several leads from people who installed fencing, contractors and landscapers. Of the people we called for estimates, Dusty impressed us the most with his understanding of what we needed done and his "Can do!" attitude. And he COULD DO! He and his crew were able to come out right away to do the work. As is usually the case there were unexpected things that came up--like having to move (and then replace) a pile of firewood piece by piece(!), but these were handled quickly and efficiently. Moreover, the crew was knowledgeable and meticulous in their reclamation work. They really are great landscapers in addition to solid overall workers. While we were originally apprehensive about how the lawn would look after having the fence torn out, we are now delighted. Thanks to Dusty and his crew we're wondering why we didn't do this sooner!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Rosemount, MN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
