"I had old style yellow oak kitchen cabinets. Instead of tearing them out, I decided to reface with MadCity. They were professional, efficient and did excellent work. My cabinet doors were re-made in a newer more modern style, the hinges are now on the inside and slow close, and the finish is beautiful. I am now proud of my kitchen. I would recommend MadCity based on quality of their product and work. These have a lifetime guarantee and being local, I am confident in their service in the future (though I'm doubting I will have issues). Great experience from sale to installation."

"We've used Joe's Custom Cabinetry for a window bench built in, mud room built in, off site cabinet door repainting, and minor cabinet repairs over the last 4 years. Both the finished product and the experience throughout are always top notch. The quality of both built-ins has been superb. We've been shocked at the amount of abuse both built in's have held up to from 3 young, active children. Think standing in drawers, hanging from shelves, and jumping on benches-it's truly impressive. Joe's attention to small design details in both the planning and build/install shows in his work. They may not be the cheapest quote you will get, but the extra spent will be well worth it. Both Joe and Dory are always prompt and responsive, more so than any other contractor we have ever worked with. All interactions from the planning/quoting process to the final install have always been with Joe, Dory, and Jake only. It's nice to work with a family business with such consistency. Everyone is always professional and friendly. Joe's Custom Cabinetry is without a doubt our go to for any future build in or cabinetry needs."

"Robert Nilsson did and excellent job at a very competitive price.  I had already invested a substantial sum in home improvements, and consequently I wanted to minimize the cost of refurbishing my kitchen cabinets.  Robert was very willing to work with me to accomplish this.  I removed the old doors and drawerfronts, patched the screw holes, and did various minor repairs on the cabinet boxes.  I painted the cabinet boxes to match the doors that Robert provided and purchased new pulls for the project.  Robert installed a total of 38 doors and drawer fronts including new hinges.  The quality of the new doors appears to be good, and overall the kitchen looks dramatically better.  The total cost was far less than alternative approaches offered by two other quality contractors.  Communication and planning with Robert were very easy. <br />"

"Shaun of Twin Cities Shelves was great to work with. I had moved into a newer home and wanted the ease of having pull-out shelving in my food pantry, corner lazy-susan cabinet (which was basically unusable) and a couple of lower shelves for pots and pans and plastic storage containers. He was prompt, reliable and significantly less expensive than another local competitor. The shelves are beautiful and I loved his work so much a few months later I decided to have him install one more set of 2 shelves in my dining room area where I stored serving pieces. Having pull-out shelves makes sure you can access and see everything that you have and need. The pantry especially allows me to make sure that I can see what food I have and organize it so that is doesn't spoil or go to waste."

"We are so pleased with the high quality of the custom cabinets - excellent workmanship and beauty. Makes us happy to be in the space each time we are there. Those who installed the cabinets on 1/25/17 worked diligently and capably, were punctual and courteous throughout the day. They where very careful to use protective coverings so no marring of walls or floors. Really wonderful experience to work with the staff. Highly recommend this company to anyone looking to enhance their living space. Anticipate long term enjoyment of the efforts of these master craftmen at Kendall Woodworks. Thank you, Joel, Wyatt and Thomas from very satisfied customers! Jane and Jim Scullin"

"We had Steve reface our cabinets after water damage. In addition to the refacing, he made 6 new full-extension drawers to replace existing drawers, created 2 new openings in 2 peninsulas along with 8 full-extension drawers for pans, small appliances, etc., and replaced shelves in the lower cabinets with more drawers. He also had to add reinforcement in some of the lower cabinets to support the new drawers. He does great work, is a perfectionist, and we would absolutely hire him again. We are very pleased with the job he did."

"The persone we dealt with did not communciate with us and the contrractor they put us in contact with to do the install and rest of the remodel. We choose a different contractor largerly because of this. We provided data on changes to the design in an E-mail, that she didn't open, and denied receiving when we came in to talk to her. We looked over her shoulder and helped her find the E-mail in her in box. We had previously worked with this company on doing cabinet refacing and had wonderful experience but we worked with another person in that case."

"We contacted Darin in late August, and he was working on another job so he didn't get back to meet with us until  September.  From the day we met and discussed the project until its completion, he returned all phone calls immediately, and we were able to rely completely on his word as far as a start date and completion.  I have worked with so many contractors that tell you they will be there one day and it gets postponed again and again, or start on your job, and work on others at the same time, coming and going.  This was not the case. <br /> <br /> Darin said it would take approximately a week to do the installation.  He was there the day he said he would, and had all the cabinets made and ready to go to complete it.  It did take one extra day, but that was due to some hardware issues that were not his fault. <br /> <br /> When we first met, we were thinking of white painted cabinets, and he was amenable to doing.  However, he did have some thoughts, based on the style of our house and the existing cabinets.  He showed us the bamboo, and I loved it, but then wasn't sure up until the installation.  Now, I cannot say enough how beautiful it turned out.  I really liked the fact that he was willing to give his professional opinion in a number of areas as we worked through the kitchen refacing.  He was not forceful but was willing to say why another approach might be better.  This was extremely helpful. <br /> <br /> One of the days he was there, I had to work when the new refrigerator was delivered.  He assisted the delivery guys in getting it up the stairs, and took time to take some of the stickers off and even polished it up some so it would look good when I arrived.  <br /> <br /> I can't say enough about what a standup guy he is and you would be very happy if he assisted in your kitchen project!  You can also tell he has integrity which reflects on the whole project.  I would give it an A+. <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Saint Cloud, MN

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
